This.the Egi's are so screwy in this game. Because there is no longer that 'elemental wheel' the Egi's are so limited and restricted to Dps/tank class instead of just being elemental power. They plan to throw in a couple more Egi's in the future, but how different are they going to be? I'd rather not replace my pets but be able to use them all.
They really are just different skins for dps. They decided the elemental stuff doesn't matter in this game and that's a shame. Especially for blms.
I'd be all for this more than anyone else. Arcanist and the ability to be one was one of the singular reasons I had to play XIV, back in August 2013 when details for all the classes were out, I instantly took a liking to the new and improved Carbuncle since SMN was my favorite class in XI. Once I hit 30 and unlocked Summoner, I wasn't too overjoyed to see the Egis. I was too fresh to the game to really mind them, but I also liked Carbuncle more. So once I hit 45 and Garuda replaced Carby, it sucked a little. Most things in XIV look decently nice on the PS3 even when it's a little outdated, but the Egis just didn't feel like true efforts to make us an actual Summoner. I'd call the class a Coalescer more than a Summoner honestly. Mainly for the reason that as you find out in the Arcanist quest line, they take mathematical formulas and use them to shape their strategies and plans, then they can summon Carbuncle to help with this.
You're only able to summon partial Primals because you have their "essence" after fighting the full ones, then you fought the concentrated versions and bound them to your will. This seems more like something a Druid would do compared to a Summoner. Yes the summon animation resembles you signing a document to call forth the beings to do what you want after agreeing to a contract, but the Primals don't seem right dwarfed down to such a size, Carbuncle was always a cute fluffy rodent and it would be blasphemous to see him be gigantic, but then the Egis just didn't feel right in anyway when you played with them for awhile.
Just my opinion anyways.
Just from a visual standpoint carby is the only one that looks like a complete fully funtioning being while the rest are just rocks.
I don't mind the size but I feel the other summons are not made with the same level of detail and animations as carbuncle is.
Probably because it's a ported model from XI. Sure it's been touched up a bit.
If they ported the other summons from XI, they would probably be too imposing for the small scale abilities they would have. So to fit the new summons with the scale of what SMN is in XIV as opposed to XI, they are rocks and fire/wind sprites.
Pure speculation by the way.
I shouldn't have laughed... but I did.
But yes... I'd adore having carbuncle back even if its just a skinned version of Garuda or another Egi.
Confirmation is not what we want, we want to know why. For a LOT of Summoners coming from FFXI we had our carbuncle as our best friend and companion. We want to be able to summon him and have him be usable. We do not necessarily need Topaz, we don't even need Emerald, how about we get a version of Carbuncle that is just Carbuncle that uses Poison Nails and Meteorite?
Better yet, it would be a HUGE step forward if we saw a "pass" on summoner pets to make them ALL useful. Give us a Titan that is not just a tank but usable as a Melee DPS pet. Give us Carbuncle as a DPS pet. Give Contagion as a level 40 Arcanist skill instead of tying it to a pet so we don't all just run around with Garuda because Contagion far overpowers any other reason to use a single pet.
I'd rather be in Zitah
Well, you CAN summon him as an Arcanist. It is more of a question of why we can't unequip our job crystals and still be something that matters. They really need to buff the classes so you can play without job crystals as well.
I didn't even do the Summoner job quests because I didn't want the Carbuncles to be replaced with those weird egis. Well, no dungeons for me as Summoner, but whatever. xD
Why did they make them REPLACE the Carbuncles anyway? They could have made Summon IV and V instead. You don't have to use the Carbuncles if they're too weak. But it would be nice if you were able to without having to unequip the crystal.
Especially Titan and Ifrit are really ugly. Not that Garuda's any nicer, well ...
But I didn't know that others think like that as well. Somehow I always thought I was the only one that likes the Carbuncles more. ^^
The Carbuncles helped me so many times, don't wanna replace them. ._.
Sorry you misunderstood what I was trying to say. I understand how the amoury system works. What I was trying to say was it should of just unlocked a new job not just give extra skills. All the class system is wasted and the option to switch between them after 30 is pointless. You're misunderstanding how the Armoury System works - you're still always levelling your 'class' even when you have the Job equipped - the Job doesn't replace the class it just adds onto it (sacrificing some cross class slots for it's own unique abilities and a stat increase).
If you read the chat log every time you gain exp with a Job equipped, it will actually mention in the message 'xxxx received xxxx <insert class name here> experience points!' instead of the Job's name. 1.0 actually stated both the Job's name and it's default class name beside it in brackets on the GUI to avoid such confusion, which I wish SE would have retained. But ah well.
I'm not sure how this game deals with character models but couldn't you just swap out dats to load up a carbuncle model instead of the current one, why can't the devs do this and add a pet customisation option somewhere.
