What are my options?

Hey All,

I am hoping someone has some experience with my situation and can provide some input. Earlier this week some friends of mine convinced me to buy FFXIV and play with them. The features of the game sounded pretty cool. The next day I purchased the game through Steam, patched up and was ready to go. I got through character creation and was ready to select world Exodus only to find out it is full. After some searching it looks like there is no way for me to get onto Exodus. Argh.

The main reason for buying this game was to play with my friends but that cannot happen. I figured my next step was to get a refund on the game. Steam EULA states it gives no refunds. In this case it doesnt seem like Steam should be the ones refunding my money. I contacted Square Enix support but they are telling me I cant get a refund and that I need to go through Steam. They also cannot assist on getting my character onto Exodus.

Any idea what my options are? It seems no one is willing to refund my money. I dont plan on playing the game. I am feeling a bit ripped-off. I suppose I can just hold on to the game for 6 months or so and see if the server has room then. Any other ideas?

Spots open up periodically. If you do not intend to play at all, you can let it sit in your steam account for however long. If you do wish to play later, you can create a character and join Exodus. The other option is to either have your friend transfer to a new world(for a fee of course), or you can start playing now with the intention of world transfer once exodus opens up for new characters.

Thank C-croft. Do you think that if a friend of mine deleted a character on Exodus that it would open a slot for me? Also is there a way to see if the server is full some other way besides the character select. I dont mind periodically checking the server status to see if I am able to create a character and rejoin but I'd rather not pay for a subscription during that time.

Do a search for ffxiv lodestone their first notice is usually the character creation availability. It also notes the times they update it within that post. And no deleting a char does not automatically open a slot up.

I ended up getting on Exodus around 6am my time on Sunday.
