They could have added a grind without using the FATEs like this. Even a "complete xxx amount of FATEs" in each area would have been prefrable but when it's one area you do one FATE, and get the drop, but another area takes 20hrs (actually happened to me) it's going a bit far with the RNG. Specifiying an amount of FATEs is a much better system than RNG.
I personally think this was a very bad idea on SE's part. where is the skill required in spamming fates? there isnt any. its all based on dumb luck. there has been people posting getting theirs in under 12 hours then people who have been diligently at it since the patch and barely a 1/4 of the way there. just cause the sun shines on your rear more then the guy next to you doesnt mean you deserve the quest complete anymore then the next guy. I see alot of people getting fed up with this and losing players. perfect example friend of mine was at it for 6 hours today got 4 atma's me i've been at it over 12 and have 1. quests that require rng fate spamming just are poor idea all around.
- I wasn't complaining about having nothing to do before this Atma grind showed up.
- I got my Atma weapon in under 16 hours of FATE farming. I was luckier than most.
- I still have plenty to do in this game, all of it more fun than FATE grinding.
- I still think this is the dumbest thing they added into this game so far, and they need to change it.
I've really liked everything in this game so far, but if this Atma farming nonsense is going to be a thing in the future again, I'm unsubscribing because it looks like they're taking this game into a direction of gameplay that I do not enjoy.
The funny thing is, getting our relics in the first place required a non-RNG skill test: Titan HM. And there was just as much, if not more whining and crying threads about Titan.

You know it is a chore, and I've complained a tish about how long it takes, but it really doesnt bother me. The only times its ever gotten under my skin is when I farmed for 7 hours straight and got nothing, but to me, thats Final Fantasy haha
Exactly this. I loved the game all the way through 2.1, and never complained about lack of content and despise 2.2 because of atma and mirrors.
Questing is like participating in an Old Spice Commercial - Talk to me, talk to him, talk to me, talk to him, Now Talk To Me...Sadly, you are not done, back to him, look there, its that mob I never liked, back to me, back to him...I'm in the Waking Sands.
