It's just a gameplay mechanic to help out if you dont have the means to heal yourself.
That's been discussed somewhere else before; it just follows in with the class system...many people will dabble in many classes (you see many helpful NPCs with Cure, for example). The Scions are all described as a class when you meet them, so it makes sense that they'd have access to the same cross-class abilities as you do.

Hmm. I enjoy reading peoples comments, but I feel that the team actually did a pretty good job of explaining Thancred in 2.2's cutscenes! Maybe we are just all over-analysing!

It's Momodi's fault for calling Thancred a "bard" in the first cutscene in 1.0 without even knowing who or what he was

Well he did act all Mr-suave and serenade her with a lot of poetry about flowers and beauty, so it's little wonder she called him a bard, even if it was just metaphorical.

Like they say, flattery will get you everywhere, and Momodi wants all the dirty, gory details of the results.
Whatever Thandcred is, he's stone deaf because you somehow keep sneaking up on him.

Okay then. that's what I'll do. I'll tell you a story. Can you hear them? All these people who lived in terror of you and your judgement. All these people who's ancestors devoted themselves to you, sacrificed themselves to you. Can you hear them singing?

It's a miscommunication on the difference of common and proper nouns :-P

I appreciate everyone weighing in here, but some of these responses are getting heated, borderline hostile. Remember that this thread is about theorycrafting, not definitive facts.

That being said, I see both sides to the argument. On one hand, devs can do whatever they want because they're the devs and they write the story and make the game. However, on the other hand, in order to create a believable world, you need to instate laws and rules that the denizens of that world must follow. If only some do and some don't, it creates 'deus ex' characters or MacGuffins, and that makes for bad storytelling. What I'm trying to do here is make sense of Thancred so he becomes neither of these things (despite how some ladies of the forums may feel about him).

If we separate his class/job from his profession/vocation, that might help us a bit, like Falen is trying to do. Kind of like how our characters are adventurers in profession but Monks and Lancers and etc in class/job (the way we go about pursuing our profession). I personally see Thancred as a GLA/THF/Mime in class/job and a bard/entertainer/performer by trade. But that's just me.

No one is actually being hostile.

If you got that impression, you're sorely mistaken. I actually enjoyed the discussion.

Then you'll excuse my inferring, as that was just my take on an, admittedly, hastily-read few pages of my own thread.
