Smoother transition of zones within zones (Turning Leaf, Sorrel Havens, Nine Ivies; Clearwater, Riversmeet, Providence Point) didn't require 3 keeps and ten thousand doodads each to feel unique.
World felt like a frontier rather than overbuilt.
    More diverse mob behaviors.
The first time through Castrum Novum: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VGdz1gjQPrE

In either case though I wish endgame had more reason to go out into the world, though I'd generally prefer to go out into 1.0's than ARR's, and would have liked to see both worlds improved upon (rather than all resources funneled into closed instances).

To be honest, there aren't many landmarks in the game already that 1.0 didn't have. In-fact, this game reuses tons of textures for the overworld, the only thing different I see is that this game's world is much smaller.

    - The OST in the original was just amazing. A lot of the music in ARR, while pretty good, is very....backgroundy. If that makes any sense at all. Like, I don't find myself wanting to just sit there and listen to it or anything. My biggest problem lies with the battle theme. It's repetitive, and it's just nowhere near as good as any of the original's battle themes. You would not see me complaining at all if they just brought back all of the music from 1.0 in an expansion pack. I don't care if it's " lazy ", that soundtrack is far too good to be totally wasted.

    - I really miss the way Limsa and Coerthas used to look. Limsa's really yellow-ish now, and Coerthas is just....bleh.

    That's about all I miss.

Choosing a botanist at the start, throwing a rock for 1 damage at the mandatory boss who has hundreds of HP.

Getting to the first town, no idea where to go, what to do, or even a functioning map.

    Not being able to jump.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to enjoy 1.0 as I had it installed on launch day, and spent the next two days with my best friend as we tried to force ourselves to like it, to no avail.

I personally preferred 1.0's approach to world design too, but they had only a couple of landmarks of the scale of the sea serpent skeleton in la noscea in both size and detail. V2 has 2 or 3 of these per zone.

All I remember was people ranting about thing like the way the water looked.... the flat low resolution ground textures used in some areas... only being able to have one hot bar visible at at time... the copy/paste fiasco... the animation locks... the huge latency... the time it took to put a group together for a dungeon...

Coerthas Central Highland have in ARR approximately the same size as in 1.0

the only reason coerthas feel small is because the other zones are missing.
I hope SE just saved them up as lv 51+ zones for 3.0

I can't believe you'd be saying that if you actually spent time in Coerthas in 1.0. The scale between the two is an order of magnitude different.Cut that first map into four pieces. Any one of pieces is as large or larger than the Coerthas we have now.

And just to you don't think I'm full of it, take a look at this video. Specifically, look at the map at 0:00 and then at 7:35. While a circuitous path is taken, it's still enough to give you a feel for the scale of the area.

It seem that you don't have tried to ride the route through central highlands yourself in ARR to compare the time. It takes just as long as in the video (i tested it just now). And at 7:35 it is not in central highlands. The person left the central highlands at 4:35. He enter the "canyon that load the next zone while you ride through it" and reach the next zone at 5:30
