All I remember was people ranting about thing like the way the water looked.... the flat low resolution ground textures used in some areas... only being able to have one hot bar visible at at time... the copy/paste fiasco... the animation locks... the huge latency... the time it took to put a group together for a dungeon...

Coerthas Central Highland have in ARR approximately the same size as in 1.0

the only reason coerthas feel small is because the other zones are missing.
I hope SE just saved them up as lv 51+ zones for 3.0

I can't believe you'd be saying that if you actually spent time in Coerthas in 1.0. The scale between the two is an order of magnitude different.Cut that first map into four pieces. Any one of pieces is as large or larger than the Coerthas we have now.

And just to you don't think I'm full of it, take a look at this video. Specifically, look at the map at 0:00 and then at 7:35. While a circuitous path is taken, it's still enough to give you a feel for the scale of the area.

It seem that you don't have tried to ride the route through central highlands yourself in ARR to compare the time. It takes just as long as in the video (i tested it just now). And at 7:35 it is not in central highlands. The person left the central highlands at 4:35. He enter the "canyon that load the next zone while you ride through it" and reach the next zone at 5:30

Only the hidden areas in Coerthas 'served as load time transitions', or to be more clear, they appear that way only because the subzones were in fact supposed to be hidden (i.e. Feathergorge, if I remember the name correctly, where Garuda's aether was hidden, and the two hamlets). Other areas could look out simultaneously on three subzones each almost the size of current Coerthas.

Anyone ever thought about how quality is always better than quantity? 1.0 failed for a reason, I would not and didn't ever consider playing 1.0, it had better animations, textures, gear, and all that but reputation goes way farther than anything. The reputation about FFXIV 1.0 was that it was a lazy copy paste job and that as a customer I cannot support.

People and organizations need to understand that reputation and integrity matters more than people realize.

I really really miss the 1.0 graphics, gear, and animations though. Scaling back that quality was a bad decision.

I think lot of it has to with the fact that new Corethas is in a valley with snow obscuring everything. Lacks a lot of the grandeur and weight.
I really do hope they open it up with new areas.

I also hope that Yoshida saved up the other Coerthas zones for 3.0 as 51+ zones. At least central lowlands and western highlands, because it would be easy to open up the blocked ways to them in an expansion pack.

i miss horizontal progression and endgame content that was still considered valueable/challenging even after a couple of patches down the road.

    - "We can [Stance]dance if we want to
We can leave your friends behind
    Cause your friends don't [Stance]dance
    And if they don't [Stance]dance
Well they're no friends of mine"

Punishing barbs meaning you could oneshot anything on THM if it hit you hard enough, return to homepoint, and rejoin your party within seconds.
Drain and Aspir working on dead enemies.
    Banish, Sacrifice, and Ruin.
THM being a cross between RDM and DRK.
Stuff killing you in levequests, then chasing you all the way to where you homepointed, then killing you again. (what the-)
    special levequests awarding you 100k.
    path companions.
sometimes disconnecting because of lag when the weather changed. For me, especially in La Noscea.
Mor Dhona's dark, ominous theme tune.
