Read this thread ~ A custom built PC always is what I'll recommend. They're better in every way compared to a pre-built retail POS. Several of us just helped another member here build a new PC. You could buy the same or choose similar parts and have a really good mid-level PC that'll last for 2-3 yrs.

I have never built a PC before so I really wouldn't know where to start and I can't spend too much, all I want to do is play FFXIV, do I really have to spend about $1000 just to play it?

All you need is to buy yourself a new Video card my gf played on a very low end 2core without issue if you have the PCI express 16 you could easy buy a 70$ that would play this game in standard without issue.

A 440GT would do it you still going to feel lag but that due to the game itself and noting due to Video card but at the end if you want to play better building a new pc is best if you have money wasting 445-500$ can do it without issue no need to waste 1-2k for ffxiv when i know people playing on even lower pc without issue.

But if you have the money i guess build a new pc if you want to play on high.

Well thanks for all the help, I think I'll just go with buying a new video card and think about building a new computer later down the road when I got enough money.

As already mentioned, the integrated graphics processor on your motherboard is the culprit (though your CPU is not the best of gaming CPUs either), and is actually well below the Required Specifications, not only in processing power (very much below requirements) but also in amount of video ram, the facts that it uses shared memory above 256 MB just slows it down even more.

If you could post the make and model of your power supply, and a budget for the upgrade, I am sure we could offer up some suggestions for upgrading the video and possibly the power supply if needed.

*sigh* why did I even buy this piece of crap? I have no idea what "make & model" is or what the budget for the upgrade is, I'm kinda stupid when it comes to computers, I just buy and use them. If I could just buy a computer without spending 1000+ dollars so I can play FFXIV I will be happy.

Sign up for newsletter subscriptions to Newegg and TigerDirect and just watch for system deals. I see PC kits and pre-built PCs fro $300-$700 often, and while they are certainly not the best PCs, they'd be much better than what you have now. Plenty capable of running XIV and a slew of other games/MMOs.

The only problem though, these PCs probably won't be easily upgradable and in a year or two, you would be in the same boat as you are now with the latest game not running as well as you'd like.

You already have Win7, and 3 HDD, and if you bought one of these kits which usually don't include such you'll be much better off. Most times the GPU is integrated or there's a cheap card added in, but you could always get a better one.

Examples of the kits I'm talking about:

    I ~ II

In all honesty, the best thing to do though would be to save up, or do extra jobs on the side for family, or sell things on eBay, and build yourself a custom PC for around $1200.

Do I have to put the kits together my self? If I do what's the best pre-built PC that's from $300-$500 that could play FFXIV?

Can you post a link to what PC you have? That way we can see what motherboard and power supply you have.

With this information we can suggest a new video card for you to use, and a new power supply if needed.
