I've never understood why the most iconic item in the final fantasy franchise, isn't used in either of the 2 MMO games.

I understand people say there are balance issues, but I'm positive there are ways around this. Rarity of the item, difficulty of the craft which causes expense economically, cool-down timers upon usage( just like we see with deadilus wings in ffxi), and more other factors that can play in to help it settle with the balance of the game.

I just feel this is one item that makes final fantasy unique, not because of it's usage, but because of the ever lasting name and the impression it has left in final fantasy history. PLEASE BRING BACK PHOENIX DOWN!

Considering every class can already use ressurect, I'm not sure why everyone would not then be able to use a Phoenix Down. Obviously make them expensive and keep the ressurection sickness, and I don't see any huge problems with it.

MMOs in general arent heavily item oriented, and any decent items in most mmos are restricted in their use


the basic idea in single players is items cover everything you can normaly do
you just cant do that in an mmo as it can make classes useless

I see where your coming from. However, classes/jobs that don't have those types of abilities at there disposal might find interest in the item. I know there has been plenty of times in FFXI where I wish phoenix down would have been an option.

exactly, and you dont have them at your disposal for that very reason

in an mmo every class should be different, and having items to make up for everything you dont have....isnt in the spirit of an mmo, thats for the single player games

Yea but there have been extremely annoying situations that aren't really party orientated, it could be helping to escort or being escorted by someone. If we limit the use of phoenix down's then they will have a clear use in the world i think. Just like powders and oils in ffxi, WHM had the spells for a reason, but powder and oil were super useful for jobs who didn't have those spells.

That's a good idea too!
and like with icarus wing's after we have been raised with a phoenix down, we would have to wait a cooldown before someone could use it on us again.

Phoenix down exists in FF11 btw. You get it from a mini-unrecorded quest of scaling that mountain in Attohwa, in I believe 5 min?
