How many time you run into people on other games(lol,tanks of war,xbox live, PSN, perfectworld games) and your like, I play fxiv and they are on a different server? Then they are I am not paying for the month to come back to play it since the entire group on different servers. like 50% the reg users. but unable to play with there friends since there all on a different server. Be a 3 times or more concurrent users on the game. and triple the monthly fee gain for square. Heck might even double the sells also.

The server transfer fee only benny where the gil sellers or the hardcore friends and You got to be what only 5% of the base that will use it at maxed in a life time. Most people, just will not do the server transfer unless super close relative or a BFL friend. and they will never play the game again and play the other games. Before most will server transfer on the fees.

Creating new characters , most the average person . will just play the one character and gear it up and not waste the time for a new character on a different server and also , Then you alienate people you meet.

I think he means a system like Maple Story or Flyff where you can log into any server you want. That could create some interesting problems, especially with FATEs like Odin and Behemoth.

Servers are separated because a server has a maximum load (only have a certain amount of people on at a time). Though it would be nice to be able to log into whichever server I want, would be able to say Hi to some old FFXI LS mates on a different server. But they don't want RMT to run wild that way.

The transfer service is actually bad for gilsellers/RMT. It costs actual money and I think there's a cap on gil that you can bring over so they can't completely destabilize the market. It was put in place mainly for those people who want to transfer to a friend's server, or for whatever reason.

I have several alt characters, actually. (Only one of them has hit 50, my "main alt"). Alts are great. I get bored looking at my main guy (and rather annoyed by his ears, tail, standing stance, and odd "relaxed" hands. Yeah yeah "use your fantasia on him". Maybe after a new race is potentially unveiled). And sometimes you may not want to really talk to the people you met on your main (whether it be because of drama, not wanting to be a prick by saying no to a request for help from the FC/LS, etc.), it's kind of a nice get away. Plus if it's a fresh alt you can be a noob again lol

You sir have brought up a very good point, some folks simply like "variety" where it concerns playing different races/genders, sadly most FCs will not tolerate a number of alts joined because it projects "false numbers, or they simply will not help yet another "alt" through those clears again.

This brings back horrific memories of GW2 lag when server transfers were still free and people would server hop constantly to farm Claw of Jormag. Odin and Behemoth lag bad enough, definitely don't need 1000 people from cross-servers making it worse. x.x
