Duty Finder Nuisance - Language Barrier

I know what you're thinking "Here we go again!", but I've got a 30 minute wait after quitting the Duty Finder and nothing better to do than to point out something rather irritating that could do with a fix. (Note, I have no solution to the problem).

I fancy myself an amateur story-teller, I find it filters out undesirables from commenting on my post as most kindhearted people will wade through the wall of text in front of them and empathise with how I am feeling.

After struggling through 36 gruelling levels as a Marauder/Warrior, I reached the part of the Main Scenario where you have to use the Duty Finder to tackle Titan. It's lovely boss fight, nothing extremely challenging, just simple rinse-and-repeat mechanics if you've played any MMO before - Rule of thumb, if the ground changes colour, its a bad sign.

I tick the 'English' speaking part of the Duty Finder screen, and only that, this is important.

When upon entering the Duty, I entered instantly as a Warrior. As the 'leader' of the party I asked the general pleasantries of "How is everyon?e", "Has anyone done this before?" and "Does anyone need me to quickly explain the tactics?". Which was responded with silence. Utter silence. As a tank, what am I meant to do? I'm not a mind-reader.

After a brief moment, one of the Bards dressed in AF gear responded in a foreign language, which looked French. And so, I used the auto-translate. Great! However, upon asking "What's the battle plan" and "Ready Check" using the auto-translate, I still got nothing back at all. Odd.

After a few minutes of sitting there perplexed the White Mage popped up and simply said "go". So off I went.

Tanking was fine, kept threat, managed cooldowns. All for one minute. Titan used Geocrush, I immediately ran to the edge and took very little damage, the others didn't fare too well and died, except for the Bard in AF gear, who even when level synced was pretty well geared for surviving one of those.

I'm not the elitist kind, and so I asked what went wrong. As you might have guessed, I didn't get any kind of response. After sighing heavily (and losing my temper a little bit) I screamed "I'm not a mind-reader, speak to me!" in an attempt to break through the obvious language barrier here. After frustration hit the peak, I left. I'm the one suffering the penalty of a 30 minute wait, after what I consider isn't my fault.

Normally my adventures into the abyss known as the Duty Finder are filled with joy, but on this occasion I'm left feeling betrayed by the system. I picked to be only joined up with English speaking players, so they must have also clicked 'English' too, and yet evidently they did not speak it.

Thank you for taking the time to read my plight, my amusment in writing this has dwindled away 25 minutes of the penalty struck upon me.

    You left after one try?

In all likelihood, they would have learned that you gotta move to the edge for Geocrush (evidenced by the fact that they died and you didn't) but sometimes it takes a failure or two to realize that.

    I feel for you.
Playing with people who suck/don't know what to do is one thing, playing with people who just won't communicate/with zero teamplay is another, and imho the worst.

I've been with people who spoke different languages than me before, and while communication isn't always easy, as long as people are willing to make an effort and with a little help from auto translate, it was alright.
People who just won't speak nor listen, on the other hand...

Note that not all of them were foreigners, it's more a people problem than language barrier (though language difference sure doesn't help).

Honestly I cherished when Duty Finder drew from all servers. It was fun running with non-English speaking people, really gives auto-translate a workout. And really, patience is a vital part of playing any MMO, if you don't have the patience to suffer through a couple wipes then maybe you need to find a new game.

    Yes, one try.

I could have given them a few more but I honestly wasn't aware of the 30 minute penalty. Otherwise I would have stayed.

    1) Players to quicken up DF queue's will tick All languages. Hell I do it too.
    2) Even though you did not select other languages, you still get queued with those that did.
    3) a lot of people don't speak in chat at all.

It sucks I know, but there is really nothing you can do about it

I've only quit a DF party once because of the language barrier and that was with a full russian party in AK before it was nerfed. I asked them if they could speak english with auto translate and one just replied 'nahhhh....' so i quit.
It was a pretty aweful run where the tank would just pull everything in the area that didn't need to be pulled and was one shot instantly.

My suggestion unfortunately is to transfer off the EU data center to a NA one.

All the NA/EU servers are physically in Canada anyways.

Or just accept the barrier as it is and have the occasional rage quits because of it haha.

Very true. Also remember that it\\'s not just a language difference you\\'re dealing with, but a cultural difference as well.

Sometimes it takes a long time to put an answer together (that response is in the translator too).

Asking what went wrong in a foreign group and expecting some detailed response using auto translate is wishful thinking at best.

Solution: Someone at SE needs to join a foreign group for upcoming content and see which terms are useful in explaining the fight. As far as I know, "Silence" and "Stun" are still not in the game...
