People use Cure, and buff spells on melee jobs to help with SURVIVABILITY during leves and when soloing. It's all a matter of how well do you think you can survive with just your basic abilities of the job. And this is also where the recent increase in MP cost of Cure has screwed DoW people over. They run out of MP much faster, and get less benefit of using Cure than they did before 1.18, meaning they are more likely to be killed, which wears out their gear faster, making it even harder to survive a fight.
