"Unable to detect Directx device" error: Is this even being addressed?

so recently I started a post here about how my laptop (despite doing just fine in fullscreen mode) can't do windowed mode for no apparent reason and just closes as soon as I get in the game.

After a while I realized that after a almost a year this technical error that SO many people have seems to have not changed at all if not gotten worse for some after looking for hours all over the internet and through numerous forums.

So does anyone know if SE is going to step up and try to make the game more accessible? It's one thing to lack content and be a boring game, but lot's of people find this such a technical disaster to deal with, especially with this afore mentioned directx error, that it goes beyond frustration.

Let me know if any magical fixes have been discovered that I may not know or if SE just screwed the pooch on this one and is working on fixing it because I sure haven't heard as much =/.

You have a Card name: Intel(R) HD Graphics Family just be lucky to even log in. FFXIV wont be fixed too the core system and Map fix which is like months away.

I see the map fix around or before ps3 release.

someone said something about disabling the optimus thing on certain computers as being a possible fix. Does anyone know how to do this so that the intel graphics HD chip doesnt conflict with the nvidia graphics?

While this most likely isn't relevant to your specific issue, since directx problems can mean a thousand different things these days (and it seems to be windows default message lol), but if anyone is getting the directx crash randomly, or especially when specifically approaching certain errors, it is most likely not your machine or graphics set-up at all, but instead just a simple glitched/missing dat file.

This problem used to drive me up the wall, and after weeks of messing with game setting/directx, trying different cards and driver versions, I realized it was just one or two messed up game files. A fresh reinstall fixed so many problems

Well heck lol, I'll give that a shot ^^! I've nearly worked on figuring out this problem to the core personally and that sounds like a logical solution so I'll give it a go and let you know how it works =).

I have the same problem with my optimus card. The solution is to disable aero and use the basic theme when running FFXIV in windowed mode. The intel device, running the aero interferes with your nvidia card running the game. It isn't the cleanest solution, but it gets the job done.

this also doesn't always work. it did for a few friends, but not for others. i used teamviewer to turn it off for one because he didn't know how and he's still having the same problem. it works for me for the most part, but still have a random crash for really no explained reason, but it seems to be only once every few days and some are still doing it 3-4 times a day.

yeah i reinstalled the game and no dice on that, didn't work for me. So how can i stop this aero program from working and what exactly is it?
