Why are there so many black mages around?

I can't speak for other realms but this is what I've been noticing on my server. The first class that seems to fill up for every pf group seems to be blm.

I originally played a blm cause vivi from ffix was one of my favorite characters from the ff series. But I've been kinda disappointed with their one dimensional rotation and their somewhat poor sustained dps and have since switched to summoner.

So what is your reason for playing a black mage?

Nah but my reason to play BLM is because it fits my personality the best. It is the class that feels the most "me".

i play blm on the side, their animus has a pretty cool.

Balmung is filled with Bards and Dragoons.

I have a BLM though, reason being is that I wanted to have a shot of casting the big time spells, one point or another (Flare, Ultima and the sort). And I thought I'll have the blank face with the yellow eyes but sadly didn't happen, dunno, it might happen in the future.

With the way people are speedrunning, it's just more efficient to use blm. Bard AoEs take too much TP. =P

u barely kill the 6min mark, if u dont run with 2 blms.
and u know? the faster the better :P thats why u see so many blms around lately imo.

Yes I get your point but it's not only bf I'm talking about but also in Levi and mog pf. And don't get me started on turn 2 coil. And even among the caster classes there are disproportionately more blms than smns imo.

I think black mage is more iconic, for one.

But a lot of it is because most people wanted a summoner that was closer to the FFXI version, with actual summons, not the Egis that summoners ended up with in XIV. Personally I'm fine with it but I know a lot of people were put off of playing summoner because of that.

Not really. Was running BLM-BRD combo and we were doing at 5mins 35s.
