    Single or Multiple Characters?

    Hello.

I wonder, if I want to create more classes, say that I want one of each class, am I recommended to get them all at my main single character or should I get multiple characters, I.ex. two or three characters?

Please explain why I should do either or!

There's no big consensus on which way is best. Some people go with alts, some go with everything on one character.

    Pros of a single character:
-No need to redo content. Once something's unlocked it's unlocked.
-Easy inventory management. You can't send items between your own characters, so it's tricky to pass things back and forth (FC chest or trusted friends or extra accounts).
-No need to repeat classes. Every job takes 3 classes (two to unlock, one more for cross-class skills). On a single character, you won't need to level your secondary and tertiary classes over and over.
-No need to log in and out, no need to re-establish friends and/or remind everyone who's who.

    Pros of multiple characters:
-You can see the other starting cities' story lines (this is only a thing until level 15ish).
    -Different races.
    -Extra shots at daily/weekly lockouts.
    -More overall inventory space.
-Potentially less cluttered inventories (carrying around fewer sets of armor, not saving crafting mats on a character that doesn't craft, etc.).
-Potential ability to hide from some people.

Most of that assumes you'd put your alts on the same server, of course.

Seems like a good explanation and it seems like from my point of view that the "pros of a single character" is better than the opponent.

However, are a single character able to have all the different jobs, will there be enough quests to level all of the classes, and do the attribute points matter, (i.ex., if you have all classes on one character, how will you put your attributes.)?

As for the multiple characters, I think that I can have characters just for inventoryspace, and send items to them like a bank. I think that would be a smart idea.

You get an experience bonus (known as the "Armoury Bonus") of up to 50% when leveling another class. In order to get this bonus you must have a class that is higher level than the one you are leveling. If you have gladiator at level 30 and begin leveling conjurer to unlock paladin, you'll get bonus experience so long as your conjurer is a lower level than your gladiator. This bonus applies to all monster kills and levequests, and stacks with your rested bonus of 50%. In case you are unaware, rested experience is built by hanging out, in towns and camps. You'll see a small crescent moon on your experience bar when resting. You can also continue to earn rested experience while logged out. Leveling an alternate class with 100% or more bonus experience is pretty quick, and a benefit you won't be taking full advantage of leveling an alt.

It's also easier to gear your other classes than it is another character. Rolling greed and getting armor/weapons that aren't for your current class can actually be put to use.

It's a flat 50% as long as your current level is less than your highest level. There's no variation in percentage.

To be honest, I haven't paid enough attention as to whether it's a flat 50% or not when leveling. I do believe it says in the in game help that it's based on the difference in levels. Either way. It's awesome.

EDIT: I do actually recall seeing my bonus diminish as I closed the gap in levels on 2 of my classes. But I think it remained a flat 50% once I got a class to 50.

It has a fairly generous cap too. I swear I got like 15 levels before I managed to deplete it after taking a long break from the game.

Yes, a single character can have every class and job at max. There aren't enough quests to level every class purely through quests. That's where things like the hunting logs, challenge log, levequests, FATEs, guildhests, dungeons, beastmen dailies, and roulettes come in. It's not difficult leveling a class when you have no quests left. It's just less questy.

Bonus attribute points are per class. So your GLA/PLD can go for all VIT, and your THM/BLM can go all INT. The only jobs where it's currently a thing are Scholar and Summoner, since both have Arcanist as their base class. SCH wants MND and SMN wants INT, so it's either split the points 50/50, choose one and leave the other a little less than optimal, or buy attribute reset items from the Grand Company to reset all the time.

You can't send your other characters anything through the mail. You can have them in the same FC and use the FC bank (assuming you have the bank privileges to do so and trust the rest of your FC that much), you can use a trusted (and incredibly patient) friend to pass things back and forth, or (if the items are market-boardable and you have the funds), you can sell your stuff to your other characters on the market boards for stupid high prices that you know won't get bought in the meantime.

Hm, thanks for the info. A little annoying that you cant send items to other characters. There should be a personal bank and/or a way to increase your inventory capacity.

Well, if you're in an FC and explain what you're doing before hand (and have the permissions) you can use the FC bank to store things for a brief period so your alt can pick them up. But ya..I wish there was a shared bank or a way to mail stuff to yourself.

Also, if you aren't aware already, you can store additional items on your retainers to increase your inventory space.

I tried to do a different character for each class. It gets boring/tedious after a while having to do the same quests over and over again. I finally decided to stay with my archer.
