Maybe if they release more tank classes to balance it out, people will choose DPS less often. Tanking is boring. I tried being a MRD and gave up around level 15. I got bored to death. Firstly, because I hate battle axes and secondly, there was just nothing intriguing. I like my bard much better. Maybe if they released more tank classes like a samurai or something, we'd see more people willing to give it a go.
this wont change a thing, because the people who pick DPS over tanking think, as you put it....
Itll just give the people who allready like tanking more options.
Would I like to see new tank classes? absolutely.
Will it fix anything in realtion to this 'problem'? not bloody likely.
maybe i will be rude, then forgive me, but all i read is:
- give us more space in a team as DD!!
- We want to instant queue as DD!!
you simply forget the most important point, most people want to play DD! other game have try to get ride of the trinity (tank, heal,dd) and it didn't work well sorry to say it.
you want to increase the group size, ignoring that will ask a whole rework of the game balance and gameplay.
when i play my monk, and queue alone as monk, i know that it will take me a loooong time for get into a group... why? because my role is overplayed. want less waiting time as DD? find a tank and become him friend! stop to play alone in your side. sorry but nothing that was proposed here is realistic and simply a rant from player that don't want to accept that DD can't get faster queue... simply because is not possible!
Well, there's TWO reasons for all of that, imo.
1) Like everyone says, no one wants to play Tanks and Healers. I love both personally. I played DPS as my primary, so I knew the dungeons enough to lead people through them pretty easily. But now I can't because:
2) Although you can easily switch classes, the new direction of the content is more geared to forcing you to play a single class in my opinion. Yes, they're trying to get veteran players to go back by putting these obscure dungeons that people skipped in the newer content such as Atma or requirements for new stuff, but that's a one-time run.
I never want to do another Atma again, personally. All my time is spent between getting into Coil and doing stuff for Atma. With Brayflox HM runs, there is absolutely no reason for me to go back and do other dungeons that aren't in my Atma book. The tank rewards are all for endgame stuff. Most of us that are 50s have zero reason to go back and do older content, so most of the people that are trying to get into dungeons through DF are probably newer. Just based off of conversations on forums and people I run into, the vast majority of new players are playing DPS (obviously) but it seems even more of the console players are DPS rather than tanks.
So, all this combined is what contributes to long DPS queues. But really, a lot of players that have the added roles just have absolutely no reason to do the content. On top of this, as many people have already said, most other 50s are just going to queue with their FCs anyway.
If roulette rewards were feasible, specifically for needed roles, it may help, but as long as Brayflox is as it is, it ain't gonna happen.
I personally think the idea of being able to form parties of whatever class you want is simply ridiculous given the framework of the game and that any long-lasting MMO is going to have the Trinity to some extent, otherwise you would just be playing beat-em-ups online. Your mileage may vary on how you feel about it, but its successful for a reason, and there aren't many MMOs that I can think of that abandon it and have large amounts of success across a long period of time.
They have rewards for tanks including extra points/gil/mount.
Yet.. there are still wait times. You know why? No matter what Yoshi comes up with to get more tanks, there will never be enough tanks.
This is a dilemma in every MMO I've played it. People just simply don't like to tank.
This is why I level a tank. Also, I do runs with my FC for my DPS needs. Heck. Put up a party finder for it.
Want to be DPS- you have to deal with the wait times. Yoshi can't force people who don't want to tank, to tank.
So.. I just recently started actively posting in forums.....

I personally think tanks aren't really in short supply. My FC, static and LS's are full of them. Mains and alts alike. I have both tanks myself. They are always needed and they know this. And they're always employed by FC or other group members, which leaves only a few group-less or solo ones that actually queue for DF. Because other than the roulette bonus, there is very little reason someone would use the DF as a tank. And why would they want to help 3-7 other randoms, when they can help their friends?
For me I find my queue as DPS in roulette has shortened. It used to be a 30mins-1.5hrs affair but now I can get between 5-20mins.
And tanks in Tonberry now doesn't get insta q sometimes, lol. We seem to actually lack healers than tanks now.
SE make some tank/healer AI players and release them to the wild.
