2.0 coming up on first birthday -- DPS queue issue still not addressed.

In 3-4 months, FFXIV 2.0 will celebrate its first birthday. It would be very nice if the developers actually got together and put together some creative ideas to help new players and old players have more fun with DPS classes.

The addition of solo content for leveling was a great idea; however, a lot of us play MMORPGs because we like the feeling of playing with other people.

My Dragoon, Monk, and Bard classes remain barely touched because my experience leveling Black Mage was so awful (30-40 minute queues, can't use chocobo while in queue, tanks & healers leaving the drop of a hat.)

I have had 2-3 people try to get into FFXIV. They were discouraged because you have to level 15 levels before your first party experience. Then they discovered that they would have to wait 20-30 minutes just to find a party. Then they further discovered that it is impossible to actually complete the mission if the healer or tank decides to leave on a whim.

    Here is my two cents:
-Giving tanks and healers "incentives" is a bad idea. Sorry, but it doesn't work! The Unicorn and Lion mounts have really done nothing to help DPS queues. This idea originated in World of Warcraft, and it didn't work there either. There was no noticeable increase of tanks or healers when you offer them goodies for participating in queues.

-Developers need to be more creative. Maybe having 1-49 content revolve around tanking, healing, and dpsing is a bad idea. Perhaps they need to recreate party content from levels 1-49 so that we can utilize cross class abilities better. Let us take 4 dragoons or 4 arcanists into a dungeon and not be at a huge handicap.

-Finally, the whole idea that we wait in "queues" to play the content is ridiculous. You have some people cycle through dungeons at the click of a button and others who wait for 20-30 minutes. We're reliving the Dragoon who waits in Jeuno for 4 hours for a party invite or the rogues who can't get into Molten Core because their jobs are too overpopulated/not useful enough.

As someone who mains Paladin, Scholar and White Mage and plays these uniquely these classes, I find it funny when people blame the players for picking a "bad" class.

Let's be serious. The root cause of this issue isn't the players picking classes, it's the lack of developer creativity when addressing this decade long issue.

DPS queue issue? There's no issue aside from the fact that EVERYBODY wants to deal damage and not tank or heal. Tanking is somewhat boring (just picked up PLD recently and am learning this) and healing has too many responsibilities. All DPS have to do is dodge and deal big numbers, pretty much no responsibility falls on the DPS until DPS checks and certain mechanics like pressing a button mid fight.

Hell I even ditched healing (mained WHM since the very beginning) for playing SMN. WHM in T5 was stressing me out and I was losing interest for the class. I find SMN so much more enjoyable then WHM and it's keeping my interest in the game from dying out

Sorry to burst your bubble but...

I am sorry to hear about the wait time, but you can expect less wait when you are up to date with content, they will add chocobo queue function soon. You will have to rely on PF, kindness from strangers or your group to help with the wait time. DF is not always the option.

That 2 cents actually had people, not all, but few people to take up healing and tank role. I noticed the increase.

you want 4 dps in the dungeon, what happens if one takes all the aggro, handles the boss, even death means a run from the checkpoint of the dungeon because there is no raise.

I find that Roulette is a great help.

I think every game that relies on the "DPS/Healer/Tank Trinity" has this problem as well. While I agree with this thing of not being able to use your choco during a queue (it's annoying as hell, and I hope that it might be addressed soon), you have different alternatives to overcome a long time queue, like asking in your LS/FC, shouting around or PF.

If this is the truth (tanking is boring and healing has too many responsibilities), why would you place the blame the players on this one? This is a developer created issue and should be fixed.

This is not what I'm talking about. I am "up to date" on content, but I would really like to level Dragoon or Monk without waiting for 40 minute queues.

If you read what I wrote, I was saying that the content should be redesigned so that 4 DPS CAN do the dungeon. Of course if you did it like that right now you would encounter those problems.

It falls on both parties not just a single one. Because I personally find PLD boring doesn't mean other people don't.

Wait...wut? The mount incentives didn't work because of the way you get them. You only have to get a cnj/whm to lv 29-30 irrc for the unicorn mount. You do not have to do dungeons to get it. The lion and bear mounts are NOT from doing dungeons but from coil and extreme primals. If you could get the mount from doing basic level 50 dungeons then that might of helped A LOT. Even people who don't consider their tanks their mains, or don't really enjoy tanking, would have probably leveled their tanks and hopped into some of the basic dungeons for those mounts.

Doesn't matter how many tank or healer classes there are if people don't want to tank or heal they won't tank or heal. Half the classes in wow have a healing spec and tank spec but there still is a shortage of those. You can't blame SE for more players playing dps over tank and healers.

What they need to do is add more tanking and healing jobs. Fun ones that would make people WANT to tank and heal. More people tanking and healing means less DDs having to wait around on queue. On top of that, it would be great if XIV could have some content NOT revolving around the "holy trinity". Perhaps content that anybody with anybody battle class can do. Some ideas:

    - infiltrating an enemy base and getting from point A to point B. Getting caught means you lose and have to start over. You have to avoid spotlights and being spotted by enemies. Maybe even avoid taking some terrain due to the noise you would make while crossing it. Players can coordinate to hit switches and open pathways for each other.

    - Operating a Magitek to destroy an enemy base while of course taking down enemies. Each Magitek can attack, heal, and has defensive abilities.

    - Allow people to queue with Chocobos. Need a tank? Use a tanking Chocobo. It can help lessen the queue time.

    - Offer more open world content. Bring back open world dungeons! They were a lot of fun and a nice change of pace.

I know SE wants people to stick to their roles in instances, but maybe they can move away from that and offer some unique experiences. A BLM that's tired of using the same old rotation can ride a magitek and feel like a total badass for one instance. It was fu to do it in the story and would be nice to do it again with more mechanics implemented.
