That's what jobs are for. Melees like DRG/MNK specialize in hitting really hard, dealing top DPS on single targets.

And if you have jobs whose specialty is heavy hitting on singles, then you will sure have jobs that are towards AoE. That's where BLM comes in.

That's exactly how jobs are. If not how about just one DPS class/job that can whack bosses like a MNK but at the same time have access to unlimted MP and flare-nuke like a BLM? LOL.
