As Vaer said, if Ifrit's health gets too low during nail phase, he just jumps right away and wipes your party. I've run into it a few times while in DF trying to unlock Leviathan. I was so frustrated the first time it happened because in no way did it feel like a fair wipe. We had everyone up, had downed just under half the nails, and had ~10 minutes left in the duty, and then even though we were following the mechanics, Ifrit decided to wipe us.
