Better yet, let the player customize and tweak the enemy AI and behavior patterns and keep a ranking to see who has the most wins. Let the player set aside a player-determined amount of money as a reward, and then set an entrance fee that other players can pay to fight the custom pet.

As an Archer/Ranger I feel I should have a pet and we should be able to charm any animal on the map period
No, never.
Beastmaster was just about the most poorly implemented job in FFXI, and it depends far too much on pet AI, which is always terrible in MMOs.
No gimp WARs with crab jugs, please.
If they can't balance it (and SE can't) they shouldn't implement it at all.

Bst was one of the most fun jobs I ever leveled, true they sorta fail in normal partys but get a few bst together to group up and it is a whole side of the game you never seen before. That and it unlocked the ability to solo on all jobs.
Killing kirin with 18 crabs chasing him and taking down everything in CoP by just sitting down and watching a rank 52 mob in a 40cap zone rip the boss a new one was the true sight of a bst's power. The class was easily the most overpowered class in the game in many many situations no DD could deal more dmg then my 75bst with a level 80+mob 2hred.
If pet classes are added I am hoping bst and smn are the 2 that are added.
Edit: forgot to put in there they added the ability to choose your Tp attacks with pets. So AI is not that bad with them towards the later years of the game's life.
Pet classes are some of my favorites and Beastmaster is THE pet class. When they (hopefully) get implemented I hope that the pets we tame become a permanent pet that we can name.
I was actually hoping XIV would be the game that could really capitalize on pets, as most games do implement them poorly. When the game was being developed they really seemed to place a big emphasis on range and position. Perhaps I haven't seen much of an impact on positioning because party play is rare and I end up attacking directly from the front. If this actually did/does make a difference, having two units attack from different positions could give pet classes an advantage over other classes.
Them going untamed added an element of "Oh shit" and made you have tpo pay attention instead of letting your pet kill stuff as you afk.Pet classes are some of my favorites and Beastmaster is THE pet class. I would love to have the Beastmaster job return in FF XIV in some way, shape or form. Improved or tweaked in some way to fit into the world of Eorzea. I also would like to know if the rumored Shepherd class shown in old alpha files is still planned to be implemented and be similar to Beastmaster.
Possible with Shepherd, I thought that would be a DoL though.
