    Merit Points

    Hello,
I would wonder if anyone would add merit points for buffing your character in a certain way, and to be able to switch depending on the situation.

    Example:
Warrior have it be able to tank or DPS. Have a merit point tree that follows tanking or dps.

Now the thing is, you'd have to add gear for the warrior for tanking or dpsing. So it could essentially take twice as long to pimp out your character.

You can have a main tree and a subclass, in which your main is more better because well all your stats are focused on it

No. If they're going to add an option for marauder to DPS, I'd rather it be another job, like how arcanist can DPS or heal.

Having a merit point system or skill trees wouldn't really help matters at best, and at worst would be misleading. If it's a fairly open system like FFXI's merit point system, you wind up with a situation where folks invite you to take things because you're, ya know, a tank job, only to have you show up and go "lol im dps make the cnj tank"

Even if there were changes to prevent that, such as swapping your role either manually or based on where you spend points, you wind up with the problem most skill trees have: Optimal builds. I guarantee if such a system were put in place, nobody would take a WAR with all their points focused on DPS seriously. They'd ask why you don't just go level a DPS class if that's what you want to do, instead of gimping your tanking on a tanking job. Even among the options to boost your tanking ability, you know all customizing is going to be lost when people figure out the optimal build, and insist people use that instead of investing points in "useless" areas.

Then make an option to be able to choose what your going into the dungeon for, easy ways around that.

The point is options, to make a character your own. To be able to do different things with each job. Dual Class call it and let you redo your job attributes for each dual class. So you can have one full Dps and one tank

Yoshi did say once he was interested in Hybrid Classes that would be somewhat what you described. Who knows? Maybe it's in work.
