The RNG as seen for gathering and crafting shows rather unusual distribution patterns.

This activity is neither gathering, nor crafting, and there is no evidence either way whether it uses a similar RNG or not.

70 hours total farming and sitting on 10/12 atma.

    I'm seriously considering quitting FFXIV.
Perhaps you should, these are signs of serious MMO addiction, I would know, I had the same problem back in 2007 with FFXI, College 6 hours a day, FFXI 16 hours a day, sleep 2 hours, perhaps seek help?

No, each ticket (fate) has the same probability of being a winner, the difference is I was unlucky, and the other person was.

Everyone has the same chance, this is not a 0-sum situation, you were not denied the drop because someone else got theirs, everyone has that same % chance to get an atma.

Well, that's just it. That's basically the definition of unfair (in English). One person receives something differently than another person regardless of their input.
Everyone is playing the same lottery, everyone has the same chance to win. There are people in life who have won the lottery more than once, and there are many more who have never won.

The 'Odds of winning' are the same for every player.

For the record, I am 3/12 and maybe a total of 6 hours of farming since the update. I only farm atma if i happen to be in an atma zone anyway, and i do it while im in DF or a coil farm party (between runs during the constant pee breaks).

That's exactly what my point was. Glad someone has some sense around here. If it were based upon differing levels of input, it would no longer be "fair". If the criteria was set to give a higher chance of attaining an Atma by getting a higher Fate rating, that would be a different story as it would give an advantage to some players. Being that it's random, it's the very definition of fair. Unfair would be if it gave an advantage to a player, which it does not do. Everyone has the same set of dice. It's just dependent on the roll.

Currently, I have seven Atmas and am grinding in Upper La Noscea. There is about one fate spawning every 3-5 minutes and maybe five people doing them right now. I'm just perusing the forums in between. I haven't pushed the grind and have only done it when I feel like it, and it's not bothering me one bit.
