What city-state you chose as your homeland could severely bias you. Gridania is nearly a ghost town and realllly gives the feeling that the game is dead. However, if you go into Uldah during any hour and look at your map you will see little white dots everywhere, so many that you aren't rendering all the people even. Contrary to popular belief there is still a decent population on the servers... just 95% of them don't speak and if they do its Japanese and I can't read Japanese ._.; There's also a similar situation as to what happened in XI, most of the people who play are the hardcore players so most of them are rank 50. They tend to hang out in the rank 50 areas and desert the lower level areas (which is very good for reducing lag! but also gives the feeling of emptiness).
