Crashing to desktop for a few seconds every now and then

    Good evening everybody,

so a few weeks ago I had to reinstall Windows 7 on my pc and since then I occasionally crash to the desktop for a couple of seconds. Ater that I automatically switch back into the game and everything works fine until the next "5-seconds-crash".
    It usually works like that:

    - playing normally, then my screen freezes for ~2 seconds
    blackscreen for ~2 seconds
    - the game minimizes and I see my desktop with the ingame mouse cursor
    - game maximizes again and everything is back to where it was

It didn't really bother me at first since I was still leveling my alts or stuff, but right now we really get into raiding and I happen to stand in a lot of AOEs thanks to this crash.

It also happens only in FFXIV, no other games have this problem.

Anyone got a solution? My graphics card or CPU aren't heating up (both around 40°C at most).

    My specs:
    GeForce GTX 770 Phantom 2048MB
    AMD FX-8150 8-core CPU
    8GB RAM
    Windows 7 Ultimate

I've had a problem like this in other games. In that case my graphics driver was crashing, it would blackscreen, but windows 7 restarts the driver and then the blackscreen ends. My guess and it is just that, is that the same is happening here. Did you forget to upgrade your video drivers? Or update to a new version that you didn't have installed before?

I tried different versions of my driver but that didn't really do the trick. I also tried switching to fullscreen or windowed (I usually play in borderless windowed), tried different FPS-limitations and different overall graphics settings but nothing did change. I also play on one monitor and have windows aero disabled.

While I was playing with a monitoring program I did notice that my GPU fan doesnt run at all, but only WHILE the crash is happening. I think this is because the driver is being restarted, as the fan speed is at ~40% before and after the crash.

I really don't know what to do anymore. Only thing left is to hope that DX11 will fix the crashes when it launches.
