How about some actual Player vs ENVIROMENT content?

I know that content is "things to do" so I been thinking for the past days, why not give us an actual challenge besides killing monsters?

Things I had in mind were stuff like:

Climbing the Mountain:

This could basically be a solo or group activity. Theres a tall tall mountain and theres a quest asking for brave adventurers to get to the top to see what is there. There could be rare minerals or crafting materials that are hard to come by. It would be a resistance challenge. Members would be forced to bring wood and food to keep alive during the climb. The climb would be of course a regular path that goes upward sin circles around the mountain. On the path up there could some monsters to add to the challenge. Little hiding spots on the side of the mountain to camp up make a fire with the wood and eat to restore energies. It would also be a sort of "against the clock" challenge, if you dont reach one of the little hiding spots in time the members would die of hunger or cold depending how high along the mountain they have gotten.

The Floating Islands:
This is only if we are getting that "jump" button actually.
Theres an unexplored island floating near Limsa over the ocean, small rock formations are floating near one of the coasts, can you make the jumps to reach and explore the island? This would be a simple quest actually for gatherers, simply reach the main island to find mining/fishing/loging spots of all levels. Simply jumpa ccros the rock formations to reach the island and take your chance at getting some items from the gathering spots!

The Monsters Menace
An exclusive chocobo leve, monsters have been seen appearing outside a cave in Gridania. This cave leads to an underground area, filled with drakes and a path too destroyed for normal people to walk upon. Get on your chocobo and run along this underground path! Fight the drakes off as they attack you while running away.
This leve basically assumes that we will be able to fight on chocobos of course.

Fight the underground kraken
Dodos have been dissapearing near an underground lake outside of uldah! Swim under water and confront the beast! This is actually something I would really love to see :S If we are getting jump I would much rather get a swim ability. Dont stay underwater too long or your hp will gradually go down! Can you defeat the beast before it eats you as well?


Sorry for the long thread but I really been thinking about stuff that would be fun to do, the ability to do something else besides fighting sounds just too good to pass up.... The ability to jump and (please god) swim would open a LOT of options up regarding exploration. Well thanks for reading and I would appreciate some feedback! What about lava that damages you while you are standing in it or walking through it, like the earlier FFs? There could be an item that reduces the damage taken, and even equipment at the end (dropped by a boss perhaps) that allows you to negate the damage.

ummm.... they do have similar stuff in ff11. Do you know how a pain those are.... fun game yes

See, I loved doing that stuff. Getting lost in the mountains, climbing all the way to the summit, then jumping off and sliding all the way to the bottom. Awesome.
