Wink Advice Needed. Many Questions. Newb Here Please Help :)

Hello my fellow gamers and FF lovers.

    1. IS it smart to pick job roles that help eachother out rather than sticking to one? (blacksmithing, mining, armorer) seem to all go hand in hand with eachother i was a Marauder during the beta phase and was going to be making my own armor etc and found alot of jobs play a role into others as well.

    2. Due to you being able to choose and be basically each class in the game on one character is it smarter to start with a new one for each class? due to stats or do the stats reset for each class you start? (BMage, WMage, Warrior etc)

    3. Are there perks to making or joining a FC? if so what?

    4. What personally is the best newb class to start off with? i personally was never a tank before in other games and mistaken the Warrior and Marauder for DPS and found out they were tanks, ive had many people curse me out for being an "idiot" and not knowing how to properly tank but got the hang of it after awhile.

    Welcome!

    1. It's ultimately up to you how you play your character in regards to classes, but yes, levelling multiple classes does actually help you in the long run, because certain abilities can be 'cross classed' with other classes, it can help increase another class's effectiveness (such as setting Cure and Protect from Conjurer onto a Gladiator). Additionally, when a Disciple of War (melee) or Disciple of Magic (mage) class reaches level 30, and another certain class is level 15, you can then gain what is called a 'Job' which effectively is an upgrade to that class, allowing them to focus on a particular role (such as Gladiator becoming Paladin, which greatly improves on Gladiator's tanking abilities).

You're limited to what abilities you can cross class as a Job though from two specific classes, but on the up side, the Job gains special unique abilities of it's own, and also boosts that class's primary stat (for instance, Gladiator with the Paladin Job equipped gains a boost to Vitality). Disciples of the Land (gathering classes) and Disciples of the Hand (crafting classes) do not have Job upgrades however.

    2. As once you unlock a class you can switch between classes at will by simply equipping the relevant weapon or tool, it is very wasteful to create a new character to play as another class (those that do this usually do it to experience playing as another race or starting city). And yes, stat bonuses are specific for each class, so any points you put into Vitality on Gladiator for instance will not effect other classes.

    3. A Free Company (or 'FC') is basically a player Guild - and yes there are definite bonuses for joing one. There are status buffs the FC leader or authorised members can buy with Company points from the controlling Grand Company which apply to all members of that FC, when set which can boost things such as exp, spiritbonding on armour, even how much it costs to teleport. FC's also can buy land in a residential area and build their own shared house too. Having said that, it's best to find a smaller, friendlier FC as the really large ones tend to be very impersonal and not very welcoming of new players (my small FC on Ridill gladly accepts new players incidentally. ).

    4. Personally, I would probably say Archer ('ARC' for short) would be the easiest class to pick up as a beginner, as they have a set of well rounded abilities, plus they can attack while moving, a unique trait that is not shared by other classes that generally have to stand still while using abilities (an ARC just runs around shooting arrows at the enemy). Having said that, Archer upgrades to the Bard Job (BRD), a much tougher role to play, but as I mentioned earlier, as you can unlock multiple classes and Jobs and can switch between any at will once you gain that ability (at level 10 in your starting class and after having completed the level 10 quest for your starting class's Guild), the class you start out as you are definitely not restricted to playing as that class for the entire game.

Also it should be said that starting class choice dictates what city you start in - unlike the original FFXIV (version 1.0) where you could choose a city at will. The city choice is determined by the location of your class's Guild headquarters, as one of the first quests you have to do upon starting involves signing up with that Guild. The starting cities and which starting classes start in them are shown below:

Gridania - Conjurer (CNJ), Archer (ARC) and Lancer (LNC)
Limsa Lominsa - Arcanist (ACN) and Marauder (MRD)
Ul'dah - Gladiator (GLA), Thaumaturge (THM) and Pugilist (PGL)

It should also be noted you can only start as a Disciple of War or Magic - you can't start the game as a Disciple of the Hand or Land sadly.

Anyway, hopefully this has helped you.

    Hi,

    1. Don't worry too much about crafting. In essence, yes since they complement one another, but crafted gear in this game is no better than gears you can get via dungeon drops. Crafting is a rather good time/gil sink though.

    2. This game promotes cross-classing - that is, one character can have multiple classes. Each class will have its own set of stat distributions (bar Summoner/Scholar, since they're both based off the same class Arcanist). For example, if I leveled a Marauder and put all my stats into VIT, I can level a Lancer later, and put all my points into STR on my Lancer instead.

    3. Some FC's have FC specific buffs. There's FC housing as well, although I don't feel it to be a very big feature at the moment. When I was leveling, the teleport fee reduction buff was really good, since questing had you teleport all over the place.

    4. Ultimately it depends on what you want to do. Do you want to tank, DPS, or heal? Do you want to play a ranged class, or a melee class? In terms of ease of play, I'd rate Archers and Thaumaturge as 2 of the easiest classes to play in this game. I started off as a Gladiator, since I quite liked to tank, and so I've never looked back. I am currently maining Marauder/Warrior for 2.2 content. This game does promote cross-classing skills, so play a bunch of different classes and find out which one has the more interesting playstyle for you.

Economy is dependent upon server. You'll have to stalk the Market Boards on your server to find out what sells and what doesn't. As a general guideline, anything used for food generally sells, although you don't earn too much, but it's considered safe to sell.

There's three different size of houses - Small, Medium, and Large, each with their own pricing range. I only know my FC on Tonberry bought our large house for 80 million gil - everyone pooled gil to buy it.

Each DPS class fits their own role. But Summoner is widely considered the top DPS, due to the potency of their DoTs, and the additional source of damage from their pet (often Garuda-Egi). Black Mage is good for AoE DPS, and melee DPS are specialists in single target DPS.

Arcanist can go on to become a Summoner (DPS) or a Scholar (healer). You also have the luxury of leveling both, since they're tied to your Arcanist class. But note that if you went +30 INT (DPS build) and decided to go Summoner, if you switch to Scholar you will be a +30 INT Scholar, unless you use a stat reset potion to go +30 MND instead. MND is the go-to stat for healers, and INT for caster DPS.

Unfortunately you can only friend and communicate with players on the same server. The only exception is that dungeons entered through the duty finder can include people from every servr - but you have no control over who else enters with you.
The best way to keep in touch is either create a character on the other server or come here and ask. ^_^
