I just don't understand, I've never had this issue. What did they break during the maintenance this time?

Never had the issue before today, now it will download the files but can't actually patch them.

Ok so I found a solution thanks to an anonymous tip. Try flushing your dns. Start Menu > cmd > on the first line type ipconfig /flushdns

That did the trick for me.

Didn't work for me, it downloads the files fine, but the issues seems to be when it is actually updating them...

Same problem for the past 10 hours... Downloads the patches but fails when updating the client. Same error codes as OP. How can we resolve this?

SE won't typically post solutions here... not what this forum is intended for. This forum is for users to discuss solutions. For more direct interaction with SE, need to use the options at the support portal or the bug reporting and feedback forums. The details are in the stickied post welcoming us to this forum.

As for the errors, it is likely due to corruption during the download or the updating of the version check files. Many have fixed these things in the past by correcting errors in the version check files. Try tweaking the version check files to show either an older patch version or the current one. If that fails, you may need to go a bit further and delete the downloaded files as well as setting your older version string in both the check files to see if you can force it to download again.

The version check files ( ffxivgame.ver and ffxivgame.bck) are located here:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn\game

Want them to both show the same version number string and nothing else.

The last patch version string: 2014.03.25.0001.0001
The new patch version string: 2014.04.08.0000.0001

The downloads are nested in your user folder under My Documents/My Games, in a path similar to this:

    C:\Users\YourUserName\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn\downloads\ffxivpatch

There will be a couple folders there with a hexcode for folder names (something like 2b5cbc63). The downloaded files for the patch will be in there. Just as a precaution, copy each of the folders to a back up folder before deleting the files inside each of them. Don't just delete the folders, as it may be wanting to use folders with those specific names (my names haven't changed since I installed the game in August 2013). Just delete what is inside each folder after you make a backup of them--want the backup just in case you need to replace something like the patch.info file or something.

The same may also be needed for the patching executable as well. It gets updated periodically, and is located one level up in a path similar to this:

    C:\Users\YourUserName\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn\downloads\ffxivupdater.exe

Make a backup of your current before deleting it, or simply rename it (something like ffxivupdater.ex_ or ffxivupdater.OLD). This may allow to can get a newer one downloaded as well.

If you are able to get it to download again and it still keeps erroring out, you may have an intermittent issue in transit that is causing issues. You can try using a VPN service to get around this (it will get you routed differently, and implement extra error detection/correction that should get around such issues). There are some free ones you can try. I will list a few I looked at with some notes about them I jotted down back when I was dealing with knackered up routing a few months back. Note that some of these have monthly data caps, so be mindful of that if you have a large patch file to pull down:

    Greetings everyone,

We really do apologize for the trouble and inconvenience you have been experiencing with updating the game. We would like for you to reboot your operating system and temporarily add FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn as an exception to whichever security software you currently have installed. After creating the exception, load the launcher to patch the game.

    Thanks,
    GM Xophious
