Wouldn't that indicate that even the undercut price is still too high?

That might work, but unlike in RL, it's not a stable monopoly because in game, there are no entrance barriers (in form of upfront costs like machinery etc.) to get back in the market, if it seems profitable.

Its better to sell 20 items in one day with a 30% undercut, than waiting a week to sell 1 item full value.

No it would indicate that there are way too many of those items on the market due to ease of access/gathering.

Which decreases the value of the item...which then makes the listed price too high....

I know how frustrating it can feel to not be paid commensurate to your perceived value of an item.

    Reasons for undercutting:

    1. Quick $ with lower profit margin.
    2. A byproduct of which they have no attached value to.
    3. "Dumping"

IF you are really adamant that you want this particular market, the best way to handle the situation is to control the market with your gil. Purchase and flip for a profit. That way, you both earn a profit on your own terms.

Consider how you got into your market in the first place. Probably through a method not so different from the undercutter you are complaining about -- competition. If you and fellow sellers of the same market are not very competitive and sell at the relatively same price, then you guys are operating way worse than the under cutter, which is collusion through price fixing.

I left and started on the 3star markets for wvr and ltw, the sales aren't as frequent and there aren't as many crafters so the constant undercutting isn't so bad there, but the huge turn in profits when something sells makes up for it. I still check on af sets, militia tools and pre-relics from time to time though, the same person is still on top of the lists for every piece, of every set :/

Two solutions I can think of.

    1. Roll a tank, use roulettes earn quick cash money.

2.Buy everything this guy sells(quickly, if he's constantly editing prices you'd want to buy it all before he can update prices). Resell it at a higher price. Earn profit.

2-star market recovers as the mats are dirty cheap and the competition is less tough (top crafters move to 3-star market). ez to make 300%+ profit which is higher profit rate than 3-star market and faster selling.

I mentioned this in another thread, and I'm sure it's not popular with people who take into consideration "profit margins" and such, which I personally don't care for, but unless you're the only one selling an item, you have no control over the value of the item. That's the way it should be. People are free to sell at however much they want, even if it's crazy, like people selling for same than/less than NPC sale price. As a buyer, I love getting good deals on stuff. As a seller, my main goal is to help others get good deals, but at the same time, avoid going so low, that people buy my stuff and re-sell it. With 50 in all crafts and gather, I simply do not have the time to do the math, I just put up items and see what happens. *shrugs*. I don't like all these posts about wanting to control the market, but it is what it is.

I do not like undercutting either, but that's how you ensure a sale. If you don't like it, then wait until their item is bought, and then yours will be purchased afterwards. If the item is not selling fast, then why do you care if someone undercuts you, if you are looking to make gil fast, you should look to sell something that people want instead. Someone undercuts me for my ahriman clock, I just leave it alone and wait for someone to pay for it at the price I put it, but more common items I will readjust the prices over time depending on how low it drops, or leave it alone.

Alternatively, you could compete with them and keep undercutting them until it's worthless, and then buy all of their items and resell them for more.
