In this situation, probably the good profitable price was built-up by that "one person",On my server there is one person controlling the one star market by simply undercutting all the time (updating prices like every 10 minutes) using multiple characters as they have 5-6 retainers selling gear signed with their name. Because of this it is impossible to compete against such players for any share of the market unless you yourself are updating prices constantly.
I'm not too sure what the implications could be if there were a restriction on a time limit for when you can update prices, or if there were a listing fee, but something has to be done about this as it's annoying never seeing any of your wares sell.
I think you only can lower your price a lot otherwise it will not be sold. ^^;
Move to another market then. Someone always wants something.
I agree. I try to never make enough, at once, where I end up stuck with it. There will always be someone that decides to start selling for some stupid low price, and basically destroys the market. I either store it away, for later, or clearance it out fast, and go find a more fertile area on the market.
The beauty of this kind of market, however, is that it has a very short memory. Markets could crash, and recover later. Prices could shoot in any direction, for any reason (even for no reason at all). Whatever the reason, it's ultimately up to you to be at the right place to take advantage of it.
BECUASE it's a game. I don't want "real world" crap "laws" and issues here. Or do you want me to stop afixing materia for free or just couple of hundreds gil just because the "normal" going rate is a couple of thousands or even ten thousands of gill per materia? As already said - those people who "constantly undercuts" are investing (most of) their time and effort to do so and they're apparently enjoying that maybe more than some other content you might be enjoying and be better on so why to envy them or (even worse) try to limit them just because you can't "compete" at the same level?
The reality is that crafting is literally faceroll, how on earth can you expect prices to remain high? If you cant keep up with the undercutting then find something else to sell.
Getting so tired of carebear crafters that always want their item to be the next one to sell and then cry when people undercut them. WHy not go play a 1 player game void of a competitive economy, where everything gets sold for fixed prices. fun? lol...

. . . I know you were being snarky but all that does is remind me of what a fun game Recettear is.The reality is that crafting is literally faceroll, how on earth can you expect prices to remain high? If you cant keep up with the undercutting then find something else to sell.

If you feel like a scumbag, you aren't enjoying this GAME! I mean seriously. There are so many ways to make gil and you have to pick the one way and QQ about it... If you are that upset by the constant undercutting of the one person, find another market. Don't feed the trolls or contribute to the problem you're complaining about. If it really is that big of an issue, why would you yourself do the same thing?Well, I went ahead and hired myself two more retainers. It's not a solution by any means, but at least now I have more opportunities for things to actually sell...
I'm also stalking this person and undercutting them on everything they make now just to p*** them off. I feel like a scumbag since I'm doing exactly what I was against @.@
I just use a scorched earth policy myself. But im not exactly like other people and have a huge bankroll to bounce pricing all over the place and keep competition levels artificially low. Undercut me by 1g, 500g, 1k etc?... I undercut by 10s of thousands at a time in return.
And you think you are the only one ?I just use a scorched earth policy myself. You are creating your own problems (and everyone else's), but good luck with that.
It's not as bad as you'd think. You would have to try it (and have the means to maintain it) to see what happens, but depending on the item(s) in question and the amount of competition you have, you essentially get a rubberbanding effect where prices start high, drop to near no profit over some time interval, and then bounce back up. It's a long game of patience where the reward is a monopoly over said item(s) if you succeed in driving off competitors. Most people simply don't have the capital or determination to sell 5 items in a row for virtually no profit. It's dirty ... but it works, if you have absolutely no care for the economy as a whole.
