I love undercutting people.

I love undercutting people.
Undercut by a lot. Make it less profitable for him to sell that item.
I'm selling things at 50-70% of the current going price for all DOH/DOL sets (head, body, leg, glove, boots), Militia offhands and jewellery atm. It's gotten to the point where I don't care what happens since it's pretty certain no one will be able to sell anything with this person around. It wouldn't surprise me at all if this person starts undercutting everything I've listed for 1 gil less despite making next to no profit, especially with the weekend mat price spike.

If you should probably just stop trying to profit from the market board. I seems SE has intentionally made many things available through different avenues. You could spend days and days leveling and farming to get an item that my retaininer might pick up in an hour. SE seems to be intentionally handing out items gained with very little effort, which are basically junk to the seller. If you don't like it, do something else, like SB materia, or DF, or leves.
Two solutions I can think of.
1. Roll a tank, use roulettes earn quick cash money.
2.Buy everything this guy sells(quickly, if he's constantly editing prices you'd want to buy it all before he can update prices). Resell it at a higher price. Earn profit.

If they are constantly undercutting then they are willing to reduce their profits possibly because they farmed/gathered/etc their materials and do not lose as much money form dropping the price. If any sort of immediate income is important then sellers will get very cutthroat with their price drops. It's how it works IRL too.
Your only options are to undercut for more immediate profit as well until the seller in question doesn't want to go any lower due the sale losing them money, or to be patient and let this person sell their items as if the price drops significantly crafters won't bandwagon on it and the price will be able to increase.
When I was trying to save money for our FC house I was able to make some good profit by crafting and gathering all my materials for items instead of buying them. My bigger competitors were purchasing the more time-consuming materials off the board which meant they would never want to go under that price whereas I could go as low as necessary to sell my items and still make large sums of money regardless.

I don't see the relation, almost nobody in the real world can be self sufficient outside of a few, and in many cases those are huge corporations. If they are constantly undercutting then they are willing to reduce their profits possibly because they farmed/gathered/etc their materials and do not lose as much money form dropping the price. If any sort of immediate income is important then sellers will get very cutthroat with their price drops. It's how it works IRL too.

So you have never heard of price matching or taking X% off competitor's prices? Taking competitor's coupons? It's taking other business away from competitors and why Wal Mart was able to crush small businesses as they are able to price things much lower when smaller businesses need all the profit they can get.

Of course but that's not really the same thing as economics in a computer game.
Well, I went ahead and hired myself two more retainers. It's not a solution by any means, but at least now I have more opportunities for things to actually sell...
I'm also stalking this person and undercutting them on everything they make now just to p*** them off. I feel like a scumbag since I'm doing exactly what I was against @.@
