    Master Craft Branding

As a possible, workable idea for future patches, aside from the signature of the crafter in the stats of the item, I think it'd be nice if master crafters (sorry, only those who've hit that point) can create an individualized logo that can be placed upon their masterworks as a visual signature of their work.

As an alternative, much like FCs can have a crest on their gear, perhaps establishing "Trading Companies" that can brand their gear would be rather nice as well. One of the plus sides is that it would essentially promote craftwork alliances among players, beyond what linkshells or current systems permit. As a mild downside, it would be obvious if your gear is bought and resold at a higher price (which is rather underhanded anyways).

To go along with this idea, I would of course want to see more gear recipes, both vanity and otherwise. What are your thoughts?

I know a lot of buyers who would absolutely hate this unless there was a way to remove the logos after buying - which would defeat the purpose of this anyways. Crafter name is enough, honestly.

Yeah, like Lyrinn said, most buyers would hate having to wear someone else's logo on them. As a seller myself too, I already hate the fact that my name is on everything, I definitely would not want an obvious symbol on gear that shows I made it. I prefer to remain in the shadows when it comes to crafting.

I would love an option to brand my gear, just so long as it's just that: an OPTION. As for not wanting to wear another player's symbol, part of me wants to say that's the price you pay for the convenience of just picking it up off the boards, plus a crafter may want to use it as advertising... but I do understand some symbols may be immersion-breaking or obscene, so there should probably also be a way to remove marks.

Yes, the idea would only work if it were optional, and even though your name being on what you make already is similar to this (and NOT optional) it's not an immediate visual advertisement for your work. And to work around any obscene symbols or the like being made, it could work much like designing/adding/removing FC crests from gear would.

That's exactly what I was thinking of. The player would need to spend time (running to the NPC) and gil to add or remove one. So, if I wanted the world to know these subligars are a Zirhmusyn original, I can do so. However, if someone doesn't want a smiling roegadyn on their crotch, they can remove it if they absolutely must.

I don't understand? Why wouldn't you want your name at least to be shown as the creator of an item? I know people have their personal preferences, I'm just curious. Maybe because crafted items aren't really worth much in the grand scheme in FFXIV, but in FFXI there were famous crafters of HQ items and to have an item with their signature was a true honor.

Two main reasons. First, I prefer to stay in the shadows and only be a crafter for my FC. The second, because I stay in the shadows I would prefer my retainers to remain anonymous; however, with my name on the gear that is fairly impossible.

I haven't played FFXI so correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I've heard, there were actually craftable items whose mats were difficult to obtain and even more difficult to craft and HQ. HQ is the standard here and with so many people able to HQ almost everything (3 stars are an exception for now but we'll be seeing that change over the next month or so), having your name on something really isn't special.
