    Can't decide

Which class I want to go with. I've been playing tanks in MMO lately, but i'm thinking of trying out a dps class. Anyone have any suggestions?

I would go with Dragoon. Its a fun class and the rotation isn't really as stringent as MONKs and it's also what I chose

I also am a tank and such and it sure provides some perspective for a Tank so it was great.

Good luck with w/e you choose and good luck

I am a winner, even though I sometimes fail.

You're not committed to any class do just try some stuff out till you find what you enjoy.

Only thing I'd say is if you're depending on the duty finder to get your dungeon runs tanks and healers basically get in instantly whereas there can be significant waits for DPS.

Play all of them to 20. That will give you some experience in the low-level dungeons with all of them.

I personally love Summoner. It's a bit of a slow-go in the early levels of Arcanist, but it became much more fun at higher levels in my opinion. Most important is to just have fun with whatever you choose. The beauty of this game is that you can always change classes if you're not happy with the one you originally choose.

Good luck in whatever path you take!

If you have a fetish for pain choose a tank.
If you have an ego-narcissistic complex choose a dps.

Since you've already played tanks, I'd say make a tank your first level 50 class. Getting your first 50 opens up a lot of options, and DPS level slower due to party issues.

Try them all. Any class you end up taking to 50 is going to need two other classes at a decent level for cross-class skills, and those are probably going to take another class or two for their cross-class skills.

For DPS, you've got melee, caster, or BRD. DRG is the simpler of the two melee, MNK is the more complicated. BLM is the simpler of the two casters, SMN is more complicated. BRD is sort of its own thing and often cited as the simplest class to pick up; no positioning requirements, no cast time skills (meaning you can stay on the move without dropping DPS), and a fairly simple "rotation."

Try each and see which you enjoy the most. (Or try each and just keep going on all of them. They're each fun in their own way, and this game doesn't place any limitations on how many of the classes you can advance.)

As far as the dungeon queue times go, the most efficient pattern is probably to keep both a DPS class and a tank or healer class leveled to wherever you are in the main storyline. Use the DPS class for the majority of the quests, but then swap to tank/healer when it comes to a dungeon run. Once you get to level 15 (where dungeons start) it's extremely easy to level a tank or healer with just dungeon runs alone. So leave all the other questing for your DPS classes, where they can get the majority of their experience without needing to wait on a dungeon queue. (Well, at least that would be the most efficient if you're planning on leveling both at some point anyway.)

The two tank classes will require you level a number of dps classes for the cross-class skills and advanced jobs. Consequently, you will play and level all the classes eventually. The question is which class do you want to level first.

What other MMOs or games have you played and enjoyed? If you have a preferred playstyle, we may be able to help you. For example, I played a discipline priest in WoW (yes, once upon a time) and preferred a pre-emptive mitigation healing playstyle. It is no surprise then that I made my first 50 class a scholar which follows that strength.

If you want a change of pace, give an example of a mechanic that might interest you or you are not familiar with but want to learn and we might make a suitable suggestion based on that. It does not even need to be from the same game.

Generally speaking though, this is a very brief and broad description of each class' playstyle. Pick out a few that interest you and we can give you more information.

Gladiator: Tank. Very simple attack combos. Endgame play focuses a lot on managing damage mitigation cooldowns. Precise and timed movement is required to dodge attacks
Marauder: Tank. More complex attack combos. Endgame play focuses on successful judgement of when to change your buffs. Precise and timed movement is required to dodge attacks
Archer: Range DPS. Relatively simple attack combo based on ability procs and crit-farming. Endgame play has you switching between dps and support roles. Can attack while moving, lending itself well to kiting strategies. Generally the easiest dps to play.
Pugilist: Melee DPS. Complex and precise attack combos. Endgame focuses on long, detailed skill rotations. Precise and timed movement is required to dodge attacks and maximize damage. Attackspeed increases as you are more successful with your combos.
Lancer: Melee DPS. Precise attack combos. Endgame focuses on careful positioning of attacks to enemy's flank and back. Precise and timed movement is required to dodge attacks and maximize damage. Timing and positioning are very important as some attack animations will leave you vulnerable.
Thaumaturge: magic DPS. Focuses on single-target and AoE attacks that require you to stand still. Endgame focuses on MP management, with buffs for mp recovery and buffs for increased damage, and timing them so you have the appropriate buff is on when you need it.
Arcanist/Summoner: magic DPS. Focuses on Damage over time effects. As a class, it is better suited to long boss fights with more movement mechanics. Requires careful control of pet abilities.
Arcanist/Scholar: Healer. Preemptive healing using barriers to reduce damage to manageable levels. Has less healing power than WHM, but has fewer issues with mp or stealing aggro. Requires careful control of pet abilities. Like all healers, no set skill rotation.
Conjuruer: Healer. Powerful healing with skill procs to reduce mp costs. Has no set skill rotation. MP and enmity management is crucial to successful endgame play.
