"People have it, I don't have it and I want it now!"
I agree with you 100%,
I've got 4/12 atma. I've hunted non of them.
Traveling threw a zone random with my level 50 and hope off it a fate is in my path.
You are compelled to rush the FATE grinding part because you need to get it done early, or get stuck doing them when far fewer people are doing them. Plus it feels like the pre-requesite rather than part of the process. Once you start on the myth books, yeah, rushing is silly. Its funny seeing posts on reddit where people are saying "Finally" finished animus grind. the patch was 2 weeks ago! Getting animus in 2 weeks isn't getting you anything. There is no need to go nuts trying to finish all 9 books ASAP. Do a book a week. You will be ok.
The point is people are rushing it who do not like it, and then complain about it. This doesn't make any sense. They put away hours and hours of their day for something they don't even really want. If you break it up over smaller increments of time at your leisure, you might find it's not so bad. I like this quest because it doesn't have a set amount of time I -have- to play. A dungeon/trial/raid, you're in it till you finish, 20-60 minute increments typically. But farming? If I'm waiting for an event to start, not enough time to clear a dungeon, I farm. I don't feel pressured to play this way, and I still can make progress. Farming in bulk will not land you better odds than farming periodically.
However, farming now will land you better odds than farming later. Right now a fair number of people are farming these things, meaning fates go down A LOT faster, thus those drop chances roll in much quicker. Once the folks grinding give up or get what they want, it's going to be much more difficult/longer process to aquire Atma.
This right here. I was trying to get all my Coil drops before Echo kicked in and all the content gets zerg'd for numerous reasons but nooope. Missing one thing from 2, haven't even been able to get into 4 except once and the group was completely new to it and I don't want to imagine what 5 is going to be like (I'm just a DPS; pulling numbers will only get you so far).
Like someone else said, the problem is that it is not something with an abysmal drop rate (well, its a large part of the hate at least), but it is possibly one of the most boring things I've experienced in a game. You take your character skills, rotations, class knowledge, and then have it locked out for an indefinite amount of time while you do this. You can stand in AOEs, there's no threat of danger, just mindless zerging. No one wants to do this, so naturally they want to rush.
I use it as filler while waiting on Coil parties to fill up, but I still hate it immensely.
