My brother created my character, although I used a fantasia on him later. He named him Alticcipitrem Aladori based off of pseudo Latin and Italian, and supposedly he says it means High Jumper of the Thunderbirds (not a bad DRG name) although I actually wanted to be a monk and will be working on that soon, and eventually warrior and white mage

Mine is a nickname derived from part of my PSN name. Everyone I game with calls me Sparky so that was what I chose. 8 months on, I'm getting a little tired of it. Name change please!

I wanted to stick with the Seeker of the Sun naming conventions while also paying homage to my favorite FF character, Rydia. Using her name as a first name, I debated on which clan to make her, originally going with M'rydia (which would also be a Metroid reference), but ended up deciding on L'rydia as I thought it sounded pretty (although everyone mispronounces it).

For the last name, since I had to go with a Male Sun Seeker first name, I used the name Kiryu, which I often use in video games and RP, and added an "h" for added miqo'te-ness.

I'm awful at coming up with names and I just wanted to play the game already so I look around me and lo and behold I had my neuroscience textbook wide open with the words Melatonin and Serotonin in bold. So yes that is how I chose my name...and really it's better than "Insert Edgy Anime Name Here" which accounts for most of the FF14 population.

Later when everyone jumped on the Sword Art Online hype, I thought of naming my character over SAO's main character, Asuna Yuuki.

I actually managed to reserve various SAO names, not just Asuna

My name came from a name I took from another game...from another game. I played PSO2 for a couple years on the JP servers and named my character Jungo Torii, from SMT: Devil Survivor 2. PSO2 had rappy (same thing as a chocobo pretty much, except Phantasy Star) costumes that I enjoyed wearing, so when I joined a guild on that game, my guildmates tended to call me Jungo the Rappy or some other similar nickname. So when I created my character for this game a couple months ago, still playing with the same guys from PSO2, I just took a different spelling of that moniker and made it my name here. Unfortunately, I accidentally made my intended forename my surname and vice versa, but it's no big deal.

as a Tolkien fan, I name my characters in Sindarin as much as possible. I've stuck with certain names like Mirfaer and Duvaineth/nor and make variations of it by translating it to Tagalog (which is my mother tongue). my forum name is another variation because I was not feeling creative that day :P
