    Enhanced Minions Idea

    I was thinking about the Minions that follow us around and basically entertain us with their pixels, and then I thought about the Minion used by the Goldsmith guild master. It provides her with useful information about crafting in the field of goldsmithing, and is a rather large part of that storyline.

    It would be cool if each minion, or a number of minions had one slot for materia. Perhaps the materia slot would be based on character level, or perhaps it would be something you quested to earn a higher ranked slot, or perhaps it would be a static value like rank I or rank III.

    Perhaps each type of minion has a particular category or class of materia it can take, like the Airship might be great for wind materia and crafting materia.

    So the basic idea would probably average to a +1 to +3 bonus in some specific area for having a minion out. What do you think?

    I personally do not like this idea. I NEVER have any minions out and would hate to almost be forced to use them. I know I wouldn't have to, but with a buff it would be stupid not to.

    Frankly, this is probably why the gear progression in this game is so stale and linear. I would love to see anything that adds some diverse or thematic gameplay options.

    How would adding what essential boils down to another gear slot make gear progression less stale and linear?

Its not like this game has very many 'viable' (Best) build options - There's essentially the 'good enough' hodge podge use-what-you-have combo of Coil gear and Tome gear, and then the actual best in slot combo of those. The same would happen to minions - One would be best. And that would be the end of it. So not only would it not make gear more dynamic, but you lose the amusement factor of minions as you're forced to tote the same one all over the place.

    Not really. Not everyone crafts the same thing. Especially with the introduction of vanity and such. People have a lot of interests. For instance, I have absolutely zero interest in gardening, but some have flocked to it like a Black Friday sale. Or perhaps minions with % chances to do something like give a free cast or boost HQ% as opposed to a steady buff. Variety breeds variety.

    Which changes nothing. There will be a best in slot minion for every job, and thats the minion people will use. Maybe that'll give you variety if you use every job and crafting class in the game, but for most people that only really main on 2-3 combat jobs and a handful of land/hand jobs, you're still nailed down to one pet per job.

    Its just another slot of gear people will put the best into.
