Certain quests (Like the atma books) shouldn't require FATEs.

Despite what other threads say about FATEs, I am not concerned with players not getting their participation in the FATE or people sick of farming them, drop rates etc.

My issue with FATEs is that I got my first book for my Bravura Atma and it required a FATE known as "In Spite of it All" in central shroud. So I was waiting in central shroud for a while for it to spawn, to which it does and I solo this down, no chance of dying due to WAR's regenerative abilities. However, time ran out and got gold but it didn't count towards the book.

Why is this a problem? Considering it is pretty late, not many people are on. Yes, I could wait until more active times, but while I am active during those hours, not everyone might be and I just wasted 15 minutes in a FATE that I could have soloed with just a bit more DPS.

Either way, everyone else should keep this in mind when soloing their atma books.

I remember the same thing happened to the Crystal Tower FATE before, FATE is really only suitable for short period seasonal event, nothing else. I thought SE have learned that, but clearly I'm so wrong.

Most FATE bosses tend to put stoneskin in their rotation, since it seems you were unable to complete it in the 15min timer I'm assuming the following.

    -You didn't use your companion
    -Never stunned Stoneskin

If you use a companion it will help your odds of winning a fight, it's definitely easy for a warrior to stay alive however if you are relying on keeping defiance up the whole time that's your third issue. You don't need to keep Defiance 100% of the time only putting it up as needed or when you need to recover HP, that loss in battle potency does make a large impact especially in timed content.

So I'd say if you do end up in a situation where you may have to solo that FATE again or any boss FATE just keep an eye on when they cast stoneskin and stun it, have your companion on hand to add to your overall dmg and only put up Defiance as needed.

Just so you know, the next time a FATE spawns the difficulty is determined by how many people were in the previous spawn. The next time it pops you should be able to clear it a lot more quickly.

It happened with my FATE for the whm book in Camp Overlook, "Make it Rain". I was able to solo the boss with my chocobo tanking but after 10 minutes or so it was only down to half and another person joined in and we still timed out right when it was at 1%. I waited for the next pop and was able to take it down to around half in 3-4 minutes but of course that time a ton of people came to kill it.

I agree that tying FATEs into quests was a very bad idea.

They should have learned from the complaints back when 2.1 went live and people were aggravated by the questline to unlock CT or the beastman dailies that involved FATEs. It only led to them having even more work just tweaking these FATEs till their frequency and difficulty matched the shift in activity around these FATEs.

The Atma crystal grind as well as the FATEs required to complete a Trial of the Brave will suffer from the same issue, except that they're regular FATEs otherwise, and that could require re-balancing of hundreds of FATEs (27 already just for the Trial tomes alone).

The game developers really, really shouldn't involve FATEs into questlines anymore, it feels sloppy and just seems to backload more (unnecessary) work for them.

In Spite of it All Fate is a nightmare. I've been there wasting my time waiting for 2 hours alread and i did not spawned. I totaly hate Atma Book fates because all them require you to waste the time of your life doing nothing in the game. It was a marvellous idea from SE to do that useless stuff in the game.

I actually wanted the quest to involve solo boss fights in instances that was similar to the Gate Keeper from Secret World as a way to test players to see if they know how to play their roles before getting access to a high tier weapon for higher tier endgame but we can't have everything after all.

(I still have memories on how hard the Gate Keeper was back when I played Secret World and it was a hard fight to remember that testing the player in everything that will be nromally required for endgame stuff.)

If a game like Defiance can auto-adjust on the fly their "FATE" system on the people that are actually there at the current time, and auto-adjust any people coming and going during the "FATE", then I see no reason why all games can't have similar checks in place. Using old data to determine the strength for a current group is just bad.
