Fights should be challenging, but it doesn't have to last a full 20 minutes to be considered "difficult". That being said, I wouldn't mind if they had some rare/special boss events that did last that long, but as long as it isn't an end-all solution.

If time is to be used as a measure of difficulty, I think they should build it into fights on an individual basis (for instance, some fights may be a drain-game requiring everyone to chip in and minimize/avoid damage, whereas some might require healers to help damage and debuff in order to pass a certain time threshold on a boss, etc. ... it would be more interesting to build fights this way, rather than just throw 2 billion hp on every boss and pass that off as difficulty instead of boredom)

...then again, good gameplay always helps XD

Kinda like FFXI where most NMs (especially post Abyssea) are Time based, % based or multitiered in terms you kill it it will come back to life, for example the Iron Giant in Abyssea-Miseraeux Coast -- When you destroy it the head will eject from it's body then you'll have to fight the head and it will eventually reattach to the body and you have to kill it one last time.

I see your point Verecund. For instance if certain bosses were 3-10min~ but there were more waves of mobs & bosses that kept coming. The combined time of the bosses could basically be the same as fighting 1 very long boss. Toss into the mix that the waves boss could be random & his behaviors might change each time you repeat it (so you're never sure what to expect).
What i'm describing sounds a bit like Bastion (FF11) but with random bosses & more waves. Also it wouldn't end that fast either.

/agree with this thread, even though it is a pretty vague suggestion lol

Not sure everyones text book definition of "fun" for a boss, but there is a million creative ways the devs can handle these in the future, so I will not try to throw out examples.

buuut, I would not be totally against a system where; your team is met against an enormous, overwhelming, and generally sinister looking boss, and the escape route is blocked off as smaller looking~wimpy enemies slowly flood the room. The boss himself is just something to avoid and try to not get creamed by, as you scramble around and knock the wimpy enemies into submission. Then, after strategically placing a "key item" on the battlefield, your task is now to catapult the KO'd enemies onto the boss to damage/stun/weaken him until, finally, he breathes his last breath

ok, that might not happen, and I'm not expecting anything too crazy and ambitious right off the bat. But if boss fights are anything beyond: damage boss, stay alive, than I am all in!

Videos like that make me miss the hell out of FFXI. Arg D: Also, to the Adamantoise video..well, I like the idea of big bosses, but the adamantoise wasn't really doing much other than stomping on the ground a couple times for high damage. Seems kind of boring. He should've had a trample ability, or some sort of ram type deal. Get me pumped during a fight vs a huge monster.

Insulting people in the counter argument isn't going to change their minds. It will make them stick harder to their opinion regardless of whether or not it's right, and think less of your opinion simply because you insulted them. In essence, if you want to try and change someone's mind, come up with a well thought-out response and don't be a dick.

i know combo system is coming also but this idea would make battle more interesting

just my idea. wat u guys think.

good example is like ff 13 video under.

Or prerequisites, like needing a 50+ alch after taking something from a mobs minions to craft and debuff the main nm, or something, you can do it with lower alch but lets say 40-50 .

I hope SE can pull something off in terms of combat & AI. After seeing Tera and the possibilities, i'm just not sure if FF14's mechanics could ever be as dynamic and enticing.
About the only thing i'm banking on is FF14's longevity after all these new MMOs' endgame reaches that point of boredom (which i hope FF14 doesn't mimick too closely).

Behemoth is way to Epic a mob for a rank 50 cap... figured they would be added once the level caps are increased.
