Rank 20 Disciplines of the Hand quests not working?

Good Evening All, I do not know if this is the right area to post, but i've been trying to start my rank 20 class quest for Disciplines of the Hand (blacksmith, armorer, weaver, alchemist) but the NPC i am supposed to "hail" and agree to become part of that craft's guild will not allow me to join, more to the point will not give me the option to join that guild. Now before you flame back about the blacksmith/armorer, i know i can only choose 1 or the other but i have tried to start either to see if it was just a specific NPC but none work. Btw i have correlated NPCs from different websites to see if maybe i was "hailing" the wrong NPC

I think its always the left most npc at the counter, and you must be on the right class at the time. I have never had any problems starting them.

You need to finish the storyline mission "Fade in White" + be in the right class + talk to the left most NPC. Also if you have chosen ARM quest and finish it, you CAN NOT do BSM one and vice versa.

Also did the little yellow blinking icon appear to tell you that you have a new quest?

Hi all, thank you for the responses. i have a couple of things that have arisen from your responses. First, i am aware that in terms of the blacksmith and armorer its an either/or issue.... second how far into the story line must i go, i chose my starting city as Limsa.. and 3rd no dice on the yellow link pearl, but that might be i have not progessed far enough with the city quests.

You must advance in the main scenario quests far enough to have learned "Parley" which is at the end of the quest "Fade to White". Parley is a mini-game that is used throughout many of the storyline quests and is required to advance on in the stories. If you are trying to activate a story quest for a rank 20 class, you would not have a guild specific NPC linkpearl to alert you of a new available quest anyway because you have yet to receive it by accepting the first quest.
