retainer classes questions

i dont understand the system very well based on the ingame explanation, so i try to get advice here

- what is the difference between retainer classes?
- what are good classes to choose?
- whats a balanced class combination to give my retainers ?
- which classes did you choose and why ?

not 100% but i think the class you pick help determine what items you retainer will bring back.

i went with monk because its my main class and i pick paladin for my second; lack of tanks and all might be an advantage ? lol maybe.

and remember you can always switch your retainer classes, they just reset to lv 1. they get xp pretty fast too.

I did 1 DOM and 2 DOL jobs. 1 Arcanist, 1 Botanist, 1 Fisher. I'm pretty sure depending on the class you give a retainer you get back different items. My arcanist brought me a lvl 38 vintage cudgel, botanist brought me a materia, fisher brought me fish and meat.

DOW/DOW bring same thing (toad skin,aldgoat leather ,anything you get from kill field mob)
fisher,miner,botanist bring their class item like your fisher,miner,botanist class and you need to farm/gather/fish atleast 1 before you can ask your retainer get it

for quick exploration they get anything even DoH or DoL class retainer bring primal weapon or DoW/DoM bring fish

I choose MNK and Fisher. The first one, because i have full allagan gear and don't play monk so much. My retainer will look great

Fisher is my other option, because i am so lazy to fish, then i send my retainer for me.

DoW/M bring back animal drops. You should pick this class based on what you have 50s in, since level cap for retainer is your classes current level -5 until you're 50.
Fisher,miner, and botanist are self explanatory. Also need to have these leveled and have personally gathered the specific item you want to send them out for.
The random ventures can bring back whatever they want, from fish to weapons.

thx , i chose archer , technically i could pick from any level 50 battle job , the other im still deciding while spending tokens on the first for now

I think all the DOW classes are more or less the same, though they may have gear biases (my PGL retainer has only brought me one piece of ilvl 70 gear and it was for PGL/MNK). DoL classes can gather expected things. I think the quick exploration is the same thing no matter the class (random stuff from fish to lamps to primal weapons). I went with pugilist and miner, though I'm going to actually have to level my miner soon before my retainer catches up.
