Is it possible to buy Elm Lumber for me to continue to perform crafting or do I have to go and cut some trees and if so, what is the process to do that and where can I find elm trees?

Well according to your profile, you can not. You need a Botanist to harvest the Elm Lumber. You can, however, either buy it from a vendor in the Housing Districts, or simply buy it off the Market Board from other players.

Head to the Botanists Guild in Gridania to become a botanist. Then, as you level your botanist your gathering log will automatically add the locations of items you can gather. Once you hit the level for elm logs to appear, go there and get them.

Same rule applies for any other thing botanist gathers

Oh, also, I highly recommend if you get into crafting to level all your DoL/DoH classes together. There's a LOT of overlap between them.
