Free For PS4 on PS Store??

I was checking out the new stuff on the PS store & noticed Final Fantasy XIV was a free download, also the sony web site notes 4/8/14 as the release date.

Are the servers up & open?

Am I able to play on PS4 now?

Any info is appreciated.

You can download the client for free.
However, you need a license to play. PS4 licenses aren't active until Monday (or Friday for early access).

EDIT: PRE-order release date is: 4/11/14, however note here that you will not be able to register to play until the hard-copy is shipped, I see an option for digital download but I'm unaware when you can PURCHASE a digital copy (just ordered the PS4 version for my brother so he can still play on the PS3 as well if needed)

Yes its a free download, but to my knowledge you won't be able to access the servers before the 11th though (the game is NOT free mind you) [my brother already has it downloaded and it won't connect to the servers, my thought on that is Sony pulled down server access until the game was "offically" released, but it never hurts to beat the stampede on the download ] You will still have to offically register the game to your account (not available til the 11th, at which time you should recieve a code in your e-mail or something).

OK, TY all. Guess the thing that was confusing me was all the "Pre Order Now" stuff.

You don't pay for the client, you pay for the license. You can also download the PC client for free. Again, you wouldn't be able to play without a license.

It is free to download because it was up for the PS4 beta test last weekend that ended on the 7th that anyone could take part of. You will have to pay if you want to play.

You can download the game for free but you will still need to "purchase" a license to play the game and then a subscription after the first 30 days are over. Right now you can buy the PS3 license for $25 on the playstation store and get 30 days for free and then on April 11th you can upgrade your PS3 version to the PS4 version for free.
