Thread: Can we please have a mail delivery system?

I don't care if it costs gil as one player has suggested - I just want to be able to send stuff to my friends or even to my other characters.

Is there some reason why there wasn't a mail delivery system at launch? What is the timetable of developing this essential feature of a modern MMO?

My guess is DB will come but only after server-side changes (i.e., 6-8 months from now).

As I said in another thread, there's really zero need to implement a mailbox system for item deliveries - it should be extremely simple to build that functionality into retainers. All you would need would be an extra tab in inventory management that holds items sent to you, complete with message, as well as a a button to send to another player.

I much prefer building onto existing systems and functionality instead of shoehorning in entirely new systems simply because that's how other games do it.

Right, but people always seem to talk about this as if it should be separate - ie, toss mailboxes around all the cities and then keep a separate database that handles the mail transaction. I was simply saying that there's no need for that type of implementation when we can simple build in into the same system and database that we currently use for retainer transactions. Since they're already supposedly streamlining and optimizing the load that retainers place on the servers, now would be the perfect time to add this functionality to it.

I don't care how it is delivered, I just want a delivery system. Flying baby chocobos find me where-ever I am? Fine. Retainer to retainer delivery? Fine. Mailboxes I have to check in each nation? Don't mind at all. Just let me send stuff to other people somehow.
