I use jumps all the time. It's just about know what makes them effective. I use Spineshatter Dive to traverse the field quickly to move between targets since using it as a stun can mess things up. I use Dragonfire on Titan during the Heart Phase if people are smart enough to run towards Titan when they get Gaoled.

To effectively use Jumps, they need to line up with your cool downs. Just using them in the middle of your rotation is a waste of DPS. I like to do HT > ID > Disembowel > CT > Phlebotomize > HT > Inner Release> TT > Blood for Blood > VT > Life Surge > FT > Power Surge > Jump. VT usually does about 1200 and depending on my luck, Jump will either do 750 or 1000. If you use Jump outside of your cool downs, it's kind of a waste at only 300ish. With the recast, it usually comes back around the same time as the rest of my cool downs, so it's just part of my big damage rotation.

If you're doing a fight like Titan, you can't spam jumps willy nilly or you're a liability. The only time you can safely do a jump is during stomps or a Goal targeting.

If you know what you're doing, you can safely jump all the time even on Titan. I do that. Sure, you're an idiot if you jump knowing a landslide is coming up, but doing so while landslide has already fixed is a great idea. It's all about timing.
Not to mentions that jumps give you a GREAT mobility. You can quickly travel over yalms covered in DoT circles, quickly close in on a target when it gets far from you, or swiftly getting out of the way of a big AoE with Elusive Jump.

It's really only unsafe if you have no idea of what you're doing and just smashing buttons.

It could also be a habit for some Dragoons from the early days of 2.0, before they tweaked the servers' read time, when using the Jumps was more of a liability than a benefit. A common statement among Dragoons was "We have these cool Jumps but they're just such ass." So old habits can be a little hard to die.

I haven't checked in awhile, so I don't know if the Rotation Reborn thread has been updated recently, but I'm trying to weave my various Jumps in. Though, right now, I'm using them more as gap-closers.

You should be but if you don't have the timing down and it's a dodge-heavy fight, it might be safer not to use them.

And then there are fights like Ifrit HM for instance or Diabolos where you want the boss to only build stun resistance when necessary (3 stuns per minute, after that they're immune till the minute from the first stun is up), so Spineshatter is right out the window for those situations.

Well, its all about knowing when its safe to do so. I ran a few coils early on as drg where the tank would have issue holding hate or didn't know how to hold still. One mis-placed jump meant that I'd be eating a hood swipe while I'm stuck in one place.
Other times, like for titan, its important to weave them in if you can during stomps or after abilities. Otherwise if you try too late during a landslide or weights, you'll be in big trouble. If the moves didn't lock you down and you were still able to move (think ring of thorns) I'd /probably/ use them more often. But because I can't always count on bosses to not kill me (Garuda EX, it doesn't hurt too much but getting stuck in an AoE circle that appears by chance under you) I'll sadly be a little cautious.

But when I can, and if they're both up, I'll use the jump boost skill + regular jump on an enemy between a combo or after a combo to work a little more dps in.

During boss fights I save them for bust dps situations (Conflags in t5 | Gaols in Titan | adds in Levi EX) but in dungeons its a free for all!

Reading this thread makes me begin to understand why there are so many terrible Dragoons.
