I tried grinding atma for 3 hours, didn't get a single drop... and as I found it really boring (the only effort was not falling asleep to be honest) I decided to boycott it and to move to other content.

It is not a matter of spending time doing something. It's the matter of spending time doing something boring.
I mean I am 30 years old I work and I like to play FFxiv (and if I remember well I even pay each month to play). Should I seriously spend my rare play time doing something I find boring ? Sorry I am not masochist, this is a game so if I find something boring I just don't do it ^^
I have no problem with time consuming things in games (especially in mmorpg) but if it is time consuming, boring, and requires the IQ of an oyster to do it then I am not interested.
Maybe folks should stop "Grinding" away...
I played yesterday and within 1 hour I got 3 ATMA from Thanalan (Western, Central & Southern) by merely stopping and doing a few FATES while doing other things. I'd be willing to bet that I get all 12 the exact same way with very little time spent.
“What if life was like a vapor, rising up from the heated viscosity of our existence? One minute it is thick and robust, full of depth, but instantly it changed and separated to near nothingness. What would it be like at the apex of separation? That point when all the steam has left your existence….”
Spent 2.5 hours last night chatting with my FC and running FATES. Got 3 ATMAS, helped some new players (Tanked with Titan) and killed some time.
While running FATES is a bit random at least it follows with the story behind the collection of Atma
To OP:
No we don't.
I won't do the quest, I find it boring. But the system is fine : you wanted some randomness ? You got it for free.
I started my Atma quest this past Friday. I was not into the constant grind in one area, so I decided to change it up a little. I went from one area to the next for variety. I also switched between white mage, scholar and bard for more variety. I was also queuing for dungeons during to break up the monotony. I only spent maybe 10 hours on Fates from Friday night through yesterday and have 5 Atmas. Not bad.
However, it is very painful to think about the fact this is only for one of my relics, and this will have to be repeated for each one I want to Atma.
I wanted to point out how flawed what you said is ..... The highlighted point is a false hood for the simple fact the drop is based on RNG... its 100% possible that it could take someone 5secs to 1000+ hours to get a single Atma drop. Its possible some people will never have a Atma drop... there is no working towards a goal there is no try harder learn the fight. Its about rolling a set of dice and hoping that they produce the number you need. That is not fun its not even really time consuming its gambling. Then we roll into the possibility there hard work may never pay off. They might try 8hrs a day 7 days a week for the next year and never get there drop. I am sure you will come back and try refute my statement. Sadly that is pointless because its iron clad that its a RNG drop "unless its changed".
Working as intended. There's 4 different ways to get a new weapon:
- Zodiac: Do a lot of grind
- Leviathan: Do less grind than Zodiac (statistically speaking, mileage may vary)
- i110: Be good enough to do the new turns of Coil and fight some RNG
- i115: Be good enough to beat T9 and fight some RNG
For people who are not skilled enough to do Leviathan, Coil2 or T9 then this is the best option. It's also something that will be upgraded over time.
For those who are able to stomach grinding Atmas for hours on end, then congratulations. I personally get discouraged after grinding FATEs for 2+ hours and just find something else to do, but I also don't expect something that was supposed to be a long term goal by design just handed to me either.
I hate you, if I had your luck I'd be at 6/12 instead of 1/12. This is what people are complaining about.
