I miss it a bit too. Mind you, I'm not high level, so other than raising people, I probably can't help much... I do miss all the shouts of people dying and asking to be raised though like there was in the end of the beta/early access, etc. I'm not sure why; I just found it fun to zip around and get people back on their feet. It was nice when other people did it for me, too. Maybe those people are just quiet now. It's true that the louder half of the community can be quite abrasive nowadays.

I'll still stop on my way and just throw a few heals here and there if I notice someone struggling with something. I don't even want a thank you; it's just fun and the whole idea of being a conjurer, in my opinion.

This. Whenever I'm a WHM or SCH I just run around randomly throwing Stoneskin on people. Also if I see someone swarmed by mobs, soloing a fate etc. I'll pop in and help them because...well, just because. Ionno. It's an MMO right, aren't we supposed to be interactive?

I run an entire FC full of players who ask for and need help on a daily basis. Once they stop asking for help and figure out how to do stuff on their own... I recruit 10 more noobies and the whole thing starts over again. Surround yourself with new players and you'll have plenty of work to do.

Yeah, I know what you meant OP.

I used to go to Valkurm dunes with my BLM and help new players, raise, escort them to the crags, help people to reach Jeuno, etc. It made the world feel more alive and created a better sense of community. With everything being instance, no penalty for dead and the world being essentially baby-proof all these things come to miss.

I don't like getting constantly harassed over PMs for help or advice that 90% of the time is usually explained in game, though this isn't so much a problem in FFXIV as it was in other MMOs I played.

I don't mind giving some advice here and there or directing people to a place they're looking for, but when you've been harassed constantly by the most inane questions followed by "can u party me and take me thru dis quest", you can't help but cringe when you get asked for help anymore in games. I'm actually thankful not many people PM me asking questions or asking for help in FFXIV, it feels like a breath of fresh air. However, the few times I have been asked simple questions, I haven't minded responding to them. And I've helped out for map parties before when asked. I help out my FC as much as I can as well, since they're basically my in-game family.

But I just prefer not to be bothered constantly by the same question repeated 50 times or people asking me to run them through things just because I have a zenith weapon.

During my first relic quest my FC used the PF to find more people to do Titan HM and all the sudden a lot of ilvl80-90 players appeared saying "don't need it, i'm just here to help", i gotta admit i never expected to see this kinda of people after so many bad experiences i had while leveling to 50 with the Duty Finder.

I miss open world areas that were dangerous enough to actually require help. /ffxi

Seems like there's always someone in my FC asking for help with something, so I have plenty of opportunities to help folks out when I can. I also enjoy helping random strangers who may be overrun with mobs, or need a raise, or are trying to solo a fate and are struggling. Funny enough, when I was farming for an Atma the other day, I had been doing that area for maybe three hours. I finally decided I had hit my wall and needed a break when I saw someone trying to finish a fate that requires turn-in items but they couldn't as they kept getting attacked by mobs. I stopped, healed them up and got the mobs off of them so they could finish the fate, and don't you know it, my Atma dropped for me. xD Win/win!

Reason people don't ask for raises much anymore is

    1. They can just tele back instantly np
    2. Don't loose any xp and repairs are dirt cheap.

FFXI on the other hand, you could actually dlvl. If you got a raise it would restore a certain percentage of lost xp. XP didn't come that fast in ffxi. Also it was no were near as eazy to return to were you died in ffxi.

Just one of the many reason ffxi's community seemed much more alive to me than ffxiv arr's does.

PS. I do see shouts all the time in mor dah on my server, but it just isn't the same

I also miss this but the reason why:
    1. No death penalty
    2. No meaningful challenge between 1 to 49, everyone can solo. No valkurm dunes bogy to kill to save the day.
    3. No open world NM or challenge
    4. No open world dungeon that required high level to help clear obstacles to get to camp.
    5. AF1 is so easy, no coffer keys needed.
    6. No one needs kazham keys or similar concept.
    7. Everyone can teleport, no one needs WHM to teleport holla.
    8. Existence of duty finder.
    9. MMO players' experiences have matured with many MMOs under their belt , so they are familiar w basic mechanics than in 2004.
    10. Widespread walkthru guides on Youtube compared than in 2004.

Basically, reduced ways for high level to be heroic.

I'll share the first heroic thing I witnessed in FFXI, was when Bogy was camped at the zone to Selbina in Dunes, and killed nearly anyone who walked in and out. Tons of corpses. Finally, a lvl 40 WHM showed up, and even for him, took 10 minutes to kill the Bogy. That was my inspiration to become WHM, and promised when I'm 75, I'd return to help, and I did.
I patrolled around at night in Dunes / Qufim to help low level players.
