How long does the new character restriction last?

So, I'm having the same problem. I have bought the game today and cannot create a character on Odin, where a friend of mine plays.

Didn't knew there is a ps4 beta going on, I guess that is the problem.

Is it worth that I wait until tomorrow morning to create a character?

I just kept checking at random times. Lucky for me I disconnected and when I came back, I found that the server was open.

New player here - on the PS4 open beta phase 2, which uses the proper servers and characters that carry over to the main game, need a bit of advice.

I'm trying to create a character on the Hyperion world, an NA Legacy server. My brother plays on this server. However, it says that the world is not accepting new characters at this time. What should I do? Just wait until it starts accepting new characters?

If I cannot play on the same server as my brother, there is literally no point in me buying this game.

You can refer to the link every 4-5 hours to see the latest posting but the actual restrictions get updated much more frequently than that. Try logging out, waiting 30 minutes, then trying again. If you are awake, try at times when the rest of the US isn't. I think it is the sudden influx of PS4 users that is prompting the freezes. The NA servers have all been open for ages.

Thanks, good to know that it's just a temporary thing. I was worried that people were locked out of the legacy servers. I'll just have to keep trying.

To an extent, I understand why SquareEnix are doing it (to encourage new players to join the emptier worlds, I guess), but it's frustrating for those of us who want to join existing players (some kind of invite system would surely make sense).

It was 23:34 PST when you made your post. Mine is going up at 00:49. So yes, the servers should be pretty empty for the next 6 hours.

Ok, now (10am in europe) all european servers are empty, so it is worth to wait until morning in your region.

I've managed to get onto Hyperion now, thanks for tolerating my complaining!

As a side note, the new PS4 beta (which is likely to be identical to the retail game released next week) is a significant improvement over the first beta. Most noticeable is the ability to run the game in either 'HD' or 'Full HD' mode (presumably 720 or 1080), and the ability to change the GUI size - the default being 140%. The latter is really appreciated, as you needed binoculars to read the text at 1080p on a living room TV on the original beta.
