Melee: Getting positional buffs from enemies facing you

I'm playing a DRG, and was looking too see if anyone had any reliable tips for getting buffs (Heavy Thrust) from an enemy that you are attacking head-on. I can do it semi-frequently, but I'd love any additional input on getting this.

It feels like I have to stand inside of the character model and strafe/turn with a certain rhythm, but once again, I can't seem to grasp the secret.

I am not sure that rear-only buffs are possible in this situation, but once again, that's why I'm asking.

    Thanks in advance.

    Jackknife through the mob quickly.

Remember that the mob's flank is determined with like a 1 pixel radius from the center of the mob. As you noted: you can stan inside the mob. This reduces the distance you have to run to get to the flank.

I can get my HTs off about 80-90% of the time. I can get ID off by jumping through the mob about 50% of the time.

The mobs turn quickly, but not instantly. The key is to ignore where they appear to be facing. The appearance of the mob's turning action is delayed. They are actually turning nearly immediately. E.g. don't wait / hesitate.

Generally, you should wait and then move suddenly. It's possible to continuously circle strafe the mob and get flanks off, but you need to maintain an extremely tight circle. Simpler to just do it once.

Hmm ... there was something else but I forgot.

    Edit:

Ah, right. You want to aim at the mob from slightly behind the straight flank. For example, you normally face the mob from the mob's 6 o'clock position. When you move to it's flank and jacknife, aim for the 2 or 10 o'clock position. This will help compensate for the first 0.0001 second of the mob's turning action.

Point off in the distance and shout "what's that over there?!"
I do 11/1 to control the rotate direction for rear and flank, as it repositions you pass through both rear and flank. Just a matter of rotate speed and timing.

I'm assuming you're speaking about mobs your handling solo. If I'm correct in that: pretty much all the mobs in the game you will face solo can be stunned, and as a DRG we are equipped with two of them. Stun should keep them in place long enough for you to jump to the side or rear and start your combo. Happy hunting!

Not necessarily; I actually thought I typed that before, but apparently I didn't. XD
The use of stuns is how I do it when soloing and whatnot.
But for instances where a DPS needs to grab something ASAP and a mob is...I dunno, resisting or immune to stun, I think it would useful to know.
For example, if you don't have a Bard for whatever reason on Turn 4 and you're dealing with the Rook.
Yes, the situations are few and far in between, but....the more you know...

Thanks for the input, everyone. It is very much appreciated.

A little tidbit from a DPS using the ps4. Once engaged and targeted, you can move through the enemy now instead of just around. Makes it a bit easier.

But that was possible since launch, I'm guessing you use the focus target that comes from pressing the Left analog stick?

The rains have ceased, and we have been graced with another beautiful day. But you are not here to see it..

I never pressed the left analog for that. Just pressed x twice to engage and can't walk through them. I never changed the settings on it.
