Not in this game, but in FFXI I used to farm the crap out of trees in Lufaise Meadows for saplings. I did it so long I was very good at claiming. Some guy tried to report me for claim hacking. I got a whisper telling me he did so. I just lol'd and said I'd been doing this for a long time.

The easiest way to tell if a player is a bot, or even a real person-controlled account but running a script of some kind, is to attempt to communicate with it and/or open a trade window.

I was once asked "u a BOT?" while trying to fish for Silver Sovereign. I politely told them "No, I r FSH, See the pole? See the glowie ball, BOT dun do dat!"

They never did reply back.

Back when I was farming trees nonstop to get my luminary achievement, I had a few people notice I was there for *hours* and emote me. As long as I did an emote back, they'd leave me alone. I never did get any accusatory tells, though my gear was nice and melded so they probably assumed I was a legitimate player. Today, I was farming on a battle class while spiritbinding with low level gear at the same time. A few people came up to me and watched me... I was sure I was going to get some tells about how I must be a bot, but they were satisfied with whatever I was doing and moved on (having the primal bow probably convinced them). I don't use macros for atma farming but I completely understand why people do. That stuff really just melts your brain.

For anyone that has said someone tried to mpk you, just report them, mpking is against the T&C, they would try to defend themselves saying "I thought they were a bot" to which they would get the reply "If that is the case you should have reported the player in question for using third party software" at which point they would either get a warning or suspension.

Nothing like Vigilante justice gone wrong.

As a new player it does strike me how quick people are to be suspicious over what is basically encouraged behaviour in this game. When I've been farming mats (whether hunting or gathering) I've very quickly got into a routine and am almost on on autopilot going from mob to mob or node to node. I'll set myself a target of x stacks of y, and keep going until that's what i've got. Yet I've recieved a good amount of suspicion for just playing the game.. and so many players have tried to mpk me already when fishing. It boggles my mind, because what i'm doing is exactly what playing the game actually looks like. I'm sure bots are a problem, yes - but surely mostly persistant farmers are exactly that - persistant farmers actually playing the game?

Looking through this thread made me readjust my chat logs so I can see /tells better while crafting. Like ImDingDing, I use macros while crafting and I might miss a /tell while I'm alt tabbed

Oddly I got accused of being a bot yesterday while fishing where the giant crab fate spawns karkinos I think it's called.
I was right next to it fishing, and someone was trying to solo it, they kept shouting out for help but I was fishing, I wasn't interested in doing fates.
Then got a chat message " help now or your reported for botting" I politely replied I'm not a bot I just have no interest in doing fates.
They then proceeded to announce in shout my name and how I am botting.
