While I realize parsers can be a useful tool for yourself, to measure your own dps and better your damage output, too many people use parsers as a way to crap on other people and complain about them or kick them from parties. Too much abuse of it, so I'd rather they not allow them at all, despite parsers being useful to individual players.

So this is good to see.

That's a bit harsh and very unlikely. They would first get a slap on the wrist (temp ban). Repeat offenders would risk permanent suspension however.

Isn't the key phrase here "would not normally be able to do in game"? Can't a player get his DPS (although using a lot of math) from the battle log? Since that is an action a player could normally do in game, isn't that quote saying that it is, in fact, okay?

SE wouldn't permaban for things like parsers, at least not immediately. Just like they wouldn't permaban for harassment immediately. It just is unrealistic to expect it, and that was Velox's main point.

The use of parsers to harass or otherwise "conduct actions players would not normally be able to do" have always been against the TOS. The only question there has ever been is whether using parsers for the sole purpose of gauging your own DPS is against the TOS. Today's announcement does nothing to answer that question.

Parsers were never officially supported by SE. I don't know why this is suddenly big news. How people put a microscope to certain verbiage to a totally unrelated incident (likely position hacking to beat new turns of Coil) is just amazing.

So was using windower in XI but I've never heard anyone getting banned for using that in the 8-9 years it's been around.

People will still use them. Nothing has changed here and they are a very useful tool particularly for battles with tight dps checks (2nd coil basically). Just don't use them to abuse other players, keep their use and discussion of within your static and you'll be fine.
