It does, but only if someone uses the link to chat thing. Otherwise, it wont work.
Quick Edit: Er.. well maybe not stats. I don't remember now that I think about it. I know it does show the item though.
It shows the full item tool-tip, minus affixed materia information (for now), including stats:

Along with materia melds, it would be nice to also include relevant HQ information if the linked item is HQ. Without materia and HQ info, the item link feature just seems like a placeholder for something better.

I wanted to let you know the team is planning on making the item link name compatible with the auto-translate feature. They are looking at the timing that it can be implemented, while considering the overall implementation of other upcoming adjustments.Would really love this feature. I'm on JP client so when I drag/drop item into chat window the text displays in JP for English players and they're like what!? (already made bug report on that one) Right now putting [] before/after the- and telling people to mouseover to check English name lol.
The dev. team is also looking into how to accomplish this in the future as well.

Awesome, thanks for the update Bay.
Ah thank you for asking with this thread. I was also wondering what this feature was for.

Hai! I'm Vahl, in ur mmorpgs, sort'n my inventory and putt'n 2 many H's in my name since FFXI..FFXIV Inventory Tetris Champ
how can you link items in chat that you cant select on a vendor or mb? like a raid wpn (the dreadwyrm handgonne) for example...
You would have to have it, be able to see the name in the chat log (like when it says "x obtains y), or have it in a loot table. You can't link a weapon if you can't select it in some way. Like if someone links a weapon in chat, someone else could right-click the name and then link it again or you can right-click it from the loot table and link it. Basically you just have to be able to right-click the name or weapon icon (and then of course click "Link"). Hope that makes sense, I'm kinda bad at explaining things.
ok thanks alot madame!
