Draw your Character

If there are any artists out there who are familiar with drawing special effects, I request your help! I've been drawing a little chat blocker to spice up my stream with, but I am having trouble visualizing the Royal Road effect:



In a nutshell: That cards needs to burn! In a more subtle way; it doesn't have to represent the hellfires from the Bowl of the Embers. But I have no idea how to draw fire and with the attempts I did, it looked very out of place. If anyone has any tips or examples, or simply draw over the image and I'll try to copy it in my own style, I'd be very grateful.

Edit: Actually, playing with fire* for three hours straight got me a somewhat acceptable result. But I'm still open for suggestions!

Just gotta say, I've been away from the forums for months and I'm incredibly happy to see that this thread is still going. FFXIV can and should inspire art, in no small part thanks to the artists behind the scenes.

I recently made some signature/forum avatar combos as gifts for my top followers on tumblr. They came out really pretty and I wanted to share them on the forums as well. Because I am literally so in love with them and I've been posting them everywhere.






*I'd also like to point out that the background images were taken off Google (most of them are from stock websites, except for just the sun? I think there might be another thing, but I don't remember ^.^") and the shapes came from my version of photostop*

Prepare for a dump of three things I put together recently.

I felt like I wanted to draw something ridiculously florid while testing out more ways to colour, three hours well spent because I think I finally found out my preferred way! With Evan, I use a lot of flower imagery so I think it felt right.




And now let's go back ten years in Evan's life when he's like what... twelve? Thirteen?
